I’m 28 years old (in July) and have been married for almost 3 years (this Dec). I have a 16 month old son and am currently 17 weeks pregnant. I’ve had 4 miscarriages - the last one almost cost me my life. Now, I found a lump on my breast. In a month it went from “probably a clogged milk duct or swollen lymph node” according to my doctor to being 1-2 cm in diameter. very firm, and requiring a breast ultrasound & biopsy.

Three plus years ago my mom had a lump in the same general area that ended up being cancerous. She has BRCA2 genes that most likely passed on to me (we have a strong family history of breast & ovarian cancers). She’s good now, but she had to have a bilateral mastectomy (w/ reconstruction) then. She was also counselled when my grandmother was diagnosed w/ her 2nd bout of breast/ovarian cancer to have a hysterectomy at 32. She did.

I’ve always known it was a strong possibility that I’d get breast and/or ovarian cancer, but I didn’t really expect it so soon. I’ve been doing pretty good all week, but suddenly today (the day b/4 my ultrasound) I’m all teary and depressed. I’ve asked my co-workers & family to offer their prayers & thoughts for me. However, I think I’m in desparate need of more. So please, add your voices to theirs. Thank you.

“BB” You will be in my daily prayers, dear soul. God bless you.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven…
hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come…
Thy Will be done…
on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses…
as we forgive those,
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning…
is now and ever shall be…
world without end. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace…
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and Blessed is the Fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God…
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

You are certainly in my prayers. I have been the fortunate recipient of the prayers of many on this forum. I am happy for the opportunity to make a small dent in that prayer debt.

UPDATE:

I had my ultrasound Saturday. The mass was 2.34 cm (almost an inch) in diameter. There were active blood vessels in it as well. The tech didn’t give me a whole lot of information though. The information above is what my husband & I noticed on our own. I’m not entirely sure what it means, but I’m afraid the blood vessels aren’t a good thing. If my doctor doesn’t call me today I’m going to start hounding her for at least a preliminary diagnosis. Its going to be a long wait until July 2nd (the biopsy) otherwise!

Thanks so much for the prayers. I really appreciate it!

I’ll remember you in my chaplet of Divine Mercy today. :crossrc: :hug1:

(Might I suggest you post in the Prayer Intentions thread as well? There are lots of prayer warriors there who might not frequent this section (Family Life) but who would also pray for you. 🙂 )

Thanks for the prayers/thoughts for my biopsy.

UPDATE: I’m terribly disappointed and upset about that though. I went in expecting to have the biopsy done right then & there. Well, the surgeon had other ideas. He’s putting me off for another month b/c he wants to take the entire mass out in the OR. I’m terribly concerned b/c in 2 weeks its grown (as visualized & measured by ultrasound) between 0.2-0.4 cm. In other words, its growing fairly quickly. Its also painful. I wanted to have an answer as soon as possible so I can make plans for what needs to happen. 😦

When my mom had her biopsy they did a needle aspiration one. When they found out it was cancerous & she spoke to MD Anderson Cancer center, they informed her that the best way to proceed would be to leave the tumor/mass in place & hit it w/ chemotherapy so they could watch the effects. They did not want to remove it b/c otherwise, they’d be treating blindly. I think I’m going to try to get another surgeon to look at it and get more options quicker.

Another UPDATE:

I’m having the entire lump removed tomorrow July 7. I called my doctor & got them to move it forward for me. I decided to go ahead & have the whole thing removed b/c its probably going to need to come out anyway (it hurts when I sleep on it) and its probably not cancer anyway (I hope). Thanks!

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called “The Mighty,” “The Wonder-Worker,” because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you, the lady known to us as BiologyBrain. Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy.
AMEN

(St. Peregrine is the patron saint for all those who suffer from cancer. He was miraculously cured of bone cancer.)

Isn’t it more likely to be down to hormones if you’re pregnant? Don’t know if prolactin is being produced yet. Hope it goes well. You seem to have serious reasons to use NFP so don’t worry about that.

To St. Agatha through Jesus:

Oh St. Agatha, who withstood the unwelcome advances from unwanted suitors, and suffered pain and torture for your devotion to Our Lord, we celebrate your faith, dignity and martyrdom.

Protect us against rape and other violations, guard us against breast cancer and other afflictions of women, and inspire us to overcome adversity.

Oh St. Agatha, Virgin and Martyr, mercifully grant that we who venerate your sacrifice, may receive your intercession.

Amen
