My wife and I pray daily, however we pray seperately and at different times. We have small children so our prayer time together is limited. Besides the rosary, are there any other prayers we could say together? Would appreciate your help! Thanks.

My wife and I pray the following:

"Heavenly Father, we offer you today our prayers, joys, works and sufferings -in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass as it’s celebrated throughout the world- for all of our intentions. For the forgiveness of our sins and those of the whole world, for the reparation of our offenses, for the conversion of sinners and the relief of the poor souls in Purgatory, and that you would continue to remake us in the image you have in store for us. To make us the best possible spouses, parents and workers we could possibly be, to give us a love of poverty and a love of you, and to give us the peace, strength, wisdom and joy we need to get through this day.

We offer this for all the intentions of our Blessed Mother, for our holy father the Pope, and for the following special intentions:. . .(to be filled in, usually by my wife).

Have you thought of occasionally getting someone ( alternate it ) to read from the gospels as you have tea at night. Just 1 chapter.

**A Husband’s Prayer
**O gracious Father, Maker and Preserver of heaven and earth, Who in the beginning didst institute matrimony, thereby foreshadowing the mystical union of the Church with our Savior Christ, Who, during His ministry upon earth, did honor marriage with His first miracle: help me, I pray Thee, by Thy grace to live in holiness and purity with the wife whom Thou hast given me.
Mortify in me all violence of earthly passion, all selfishness and inconsiderateness (here name any besetting sin which may be a hindrance to you), that I may love her as Christ loved His Church, cherish and comfort her as my own body, and have as great care for her happiness as for my own.
Grant that we may live in peace, without contention; in unity, without discord.
Give us, O Lord, discreet heart and understanding minds, to bring up our children in Thy faith and fear, that they may be obedient to Thee and to Thy commandments, and to all that Thou requirest of them in their duties towards their parents.
And give us, O Lord, a sufficiency of those things necessary to maintain ourselves and our family according to that rank and calling wherein Thou hast placed us, without excess or vainglory, in singleness and pureness of heart.
Grant this for Jesus Christ’s sake, to Whom, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

A Wife’s Prayer
O merciful Lord God, who in the beginning didst take Eve out of the side of Adam and didst give her to him as a helpmate: grant me grace to live worthy of the honorable estate of matrimony to which Thou hast called me, that I may love my husband with a pure and chaste love, acknowledging him as my head, and truly reverencing and obeying him in all good things; that thereby I may please him, and live with him in all Christian serenity.
Keep me from all worldliness and vanity.
Help me, O Lord, that I may, under him, prudently and discreetly guide and govern his household.
Let no fault of mine aggravate any sins by which he may be especially tempted; enable me to soothe him in perplexity, to cheer him in difficulty, to refresh him in weariness, and, as far as may be, to advise him in doubt.
Give me understanding so to fulfil my part in the education of our children, that they may be our joy in this world and our glory in the next.
Grant that our perfect union here may be the beginning of the still more perfect and blissful union hereafter in Thy kingdom; and this I pray through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

dizzy_dave: send me a private message with your e-mail address and I will send you Microsoft Word documents that I made from these two prayers.

Praying the Rosary in a group is better than praying the Rosary alone. Praying the Rosary in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament is good too. Join the Confraternity of the Rosary and then you are always praying the Rosary with others – and the benefits are really very good.

I had been out of work for more than a year. The day that my Confraternity registration certificate came in the mail was the very same day that I got a telephone call with news that I got my current job. I now have a job that is suitable work. With two weeks paid vacation a year, some personal leave days as well, and good health insurance.

Intriguing, do tell me what the Confraternity of the Rosary is. Sounds nice, since I already pray one a night at least.

Praying the “Hours,” the official prayers of the church can be a great prayer for husband and wife. Evening prayer can be done in 10 or 15 minutes. The Psalms are set up so that two people can alternate in reading them. Anyone who is considering a vocation as a permanent deacon, will be greatly blessed by this practice. In formation and in candidate study groups, this prayer is always said. After Ordination, the deacon is required to say the morning and evening “Office.” All clergy up to and including the pope have this obligation. Many lay people have adopted this practice.

God bless

Marriage Prayer

Lord,
Help us to remember when we first met

and the strong love that grew between us,

to work that love into practical things

so nothing can divide us.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness

as well as to forgive.

Dear Lord, we put our marriage into Your hands.

Amen

Hi Dave,

I’d strongly suggest the Liturgy of the Hours, prayed together “in choir” as they say. You read one part, your wife responds with the next part, and so on. In this way, you minister each to the other - each “feeding” the other the precious Bread of the Word.

My wife and I pray the Morning and the Evening Prayers together. It requires about 15 minutes each time. It is worth it.

Many couples do pray separately - and have separate ministries, etc. Let me say that praying together is very important to the union of the marriage, and the growth of grace of the Sacrament. I hope you will try this.

Deacon Tony’s and RThomas’s suggestions are excellent.

My mother and I sometimes prayed the LOTH together, I showed her how and it enriched both of our prayer lives. She has passed on now but I will always remember the times we spent together in prayer. She had the *Morning and Evening *abbreviated Liturgy of the Hours on her nightstand until the day she died.

The LOTH is based upon the Psalms, extracts from the Gospels and Letters plus the canticle of Zechariah and the Magnificat and more! I cannot think of a finer set of prayers to foster a devout Christian life with another person.

Thanks everyone, some very good idea’s, we will try some and see which ones work best for us, the main problem is we need something quick, since we have four kids our time is limited. Thanks everyone. God Bless.
