Praying for the poor souls in Purgatory

Can those who are in purgatory pray for each other? That would seem reasonable since they know who is there and if they can’t pray for themselves why not pray for the others that are there with them?

No they can pray for us and we can pray for them. We can earn them indulgences.
 
It’s good to say a prayer for those souls in purgatory that don’t have a loved one on earth who knows to pray for them.
 
The short answer is we don’t know. There is nothing in Church tradition regarding this possibility. It is possible that the saints in heaven continually glorifying God is also of benefit to the souls in purgatory, but we don’t know.
 
I’ve always understood that those in purgatory could pray for us but can’t pray for themselves. Also, I would think a mother in heaven who sees her children in purgatory would be praying most of the time for them to get to heaven.
