Back in the day (way back), the nuns always told us to “pray BIG” and that no prayer was too big for God. I’ve been giving this a lot of thought lately. We are to be a forgiving people who are to treat others as we would want to be treated. Well, if I were in Purgatory then I would want people to pray for me. Is it sacreligious to pray that our merciful God releases all the souls in Purgatory to Heaven today so they can glorify Him fully? I completely understand about atonement but I cannot think of anything more selfless and Godly than for us to ask Him to allow these suffering souls to be released to Heaven now. Somehow I think someone is going to give me reason not to carry this hope and prayer but I am open to opinion and educated comment.

I can think of single reason not to pray for the release of the souls in purgatory.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Pray For Souls In Purgatory

There are more souls released from purgatory during the Consecration of the Mass than at any time. Christmas is the day of the year when most souls are delivered; then feast days of Our Lord, Our Lady and great saints. Souls receive much grace from prayers offered for them on their birthdays, day of baptism, anniversary of death.

The more we work for Poor Souls on earth the more others will pray for us, the more merciful will Christ be with us when were in purgatory.

Our Lady asked that we pray very much for the poor souls; that we pray:
5 I believe in God . . .
1 Hail Holy Queen . . .
1 Our Father . . .
1 Hail Mary . . .
1 Glory be to the Father . . .
1 Requiem (Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them and may they rest in peace. Amen!)
Our Lady said that if we pray the prayers “we’ll deliver so many souls, so many souls!”

“The Holy wounds are the treasure of treasures for the souls in Purgatory.”

I don’t think it is a realistic prayer, to be honest…when you say all.

There is a temporal punishment due to sin that needs to be purged. As far as some amount of justice goes, I’m uncertain on this point.

I usually pray for the holy souls that have no one to pray for them.

Just to reference the Fatima revelations, Luccia asked Our Lady about one particular girl who had recently died if she was in Heaven, and Our Lady said she will be in purgatory until the end of time.

Gives one pause, doesn’t it.

I think she said until the end of the world, which might not be too far away.

Of course not! 🙂

Having said that, as with all prayers, we should understand that what we are asking might not be in perfect accordance with God’s will, and that, even if it is, our time-table might not line up with His.

But it would be quite silly to pray such a prayer as you mention, and then to never again bother with the Holy Souls, as if our prayer was surely infallibly answered. (I’m not accusing you of that sort of mentality, but just mentioning this since the thought was on my mind.)

I am very fond of Tassone’s books! I agree that not all prayers are answered but that should never stop us from praying (as you indicated). For me, praying for the holy souls is part of my daily life. Treat others as you would like to be treated…and none of us have never sinned.

Prayer of St Gregory:

Dear God,
I offer the most precious blood of your divine son Jesus for the souls in Purgatory, in union with all masses being said this day throughout the entire world and all of my pains and sufferings this day for the souls in purgatory. Amen.

I am not sure of the exact words, but I think the above is close.
