What is your belief on this activity? Good, bad, indifferent? Is it effective? Does it do more good than if one were to pray for these women and their babies in one’s own home or at church? It seems as though many priests do not encourage or themselves pray in front of aboriton millls like planned parenthood, but perhaps I’m mistaken. What do you think? Is this something we should do as Christ’s disciples?

One Church in my city quietly prays the divine chaplet outside Planned Parenthood after the Friday 12:10 Mass. They don’t harass people they just pray as a group. I have prayed with.

I think it’s up to an individual and as long as it doesn’t violate parameters of the abortion clinic for doing such or harass individuals then it’s a good thing to do.

Mary.

Our Bishop, on several occasions, has joined us in candlelight prayer vigils in front of an abortion clinic.

There is a need to pray at home, and also for those who pray together quietly in front of an abortion clinic.
As long as you pray with love and compassion for the abortionists, and those seeking the abortion, as well as for the babies to be, it is very powerful.

Many priests are busy with other things that they are lending their talents to, and so focus on other important things.

When priests and laity are indifferent or unconcerned, then we need to bless them and pray for them as well.

God’s love is the greatest power to change minds!

We have a clinic nearby and whenever I drive by there are at least a few people standing outside with signs and rosaries. I have a great respect for them as I think they cause people to think about this issue each time they see them. We all need to pray whether we join in these groups or at home.

I have prayed in front of abortion clinic with and without priest being present. And I have carried the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Who is pregnant in that image during several prayer sessions.

It has been reported by women who were planning to have an abortion or were actually present at clinics that the presence of those praying turned their hearts and the carried to term.

Prayer before clinics works, and even if you cannot pray before a clinic, never, ever, ever forget to offer as part of your daily prayers that GOD and HIS Mother Mary, intervene and stop this holocaust which the US is responsible for spreading thoughout the world.

My wife and kids have done this, as well as participate in LifeChain each year. There is no substitute for personal, physical, public witness.

I think this is a wonderful statement. But I would hope that those who are in prayer are also prepared to evacuate a young woman from the site in in case she changes her mind.

From personal experience, such crowds can often feel threatening to women (some of whom not necessarily getting abortions. Planned Parenthood for example, also provides reproductive care like gynecological exams to women w/out insurance).

Does praying outside abortion clinics work? Who knows. All we have is anecdotal evidence on both sides. Some women claim it helped them choose life, while others say they felt judged and violated.

I think if you’re truly concerned about abortion, there are more productive measures you can take. Many, many women choose abortion because they don’t feel they can financially support the medical expenses associated with pregnancy and childbirth, never mind the cost of raising a child. Why don’t you run a drive at your church to collect money for a women’s shelter? Maybe you could set up a place where parishioners could donate essentials like diapers. I’m SURE your priest knows women who could use the assistance or local charities that can distribute these goods.

Create a safe environment in your home parish for pregnant women. Support resources for low-income women and those pregnant out of wedlock. These measures will bring lost souls to the Church AND cut down on the number of abortions in your local area.

It’s much more effective than waving hateful signs screaming at women. Many of whom feel they have no other choice. During 40 days for life a few years back, I prayed outside an abortion clinic once. I was the only one there. I felt a little nervous, afraid everyone driving by would see me and think I was weird or something. A couple people honked and yelled at me. Only one one came to that abortion clinic. She stepped out of her car to think me for just praying, and not waving any hateful signs. I could clearly see the pain in her eyes. I was going to say something, but she drove off.

If there’s anything I can learn from this, it’s that prayer does work, and it’s certainly more effective than praying at your house. Women going to those clinics need to see someone praying more than people shouting with angry signs. When people talk about pro life people attacking women going into these clinics, these accusations aren’t completely unfounded.

The Forty Days for Life campaigns that have been going on for several years are very effective. They are very well organized. They do not shout and condemn or carry hateful signs. That is very effective.

They quietly pray and obey where they are to stand or sit near the abortion place. Some of them are gifted sidewalk counselors and they know when and how to approach someone who is going in the abortion place. Those who change their minds are told about where to go for help at a local crisis pregnancy center.

They have shared many success stories about the lives they have saved. Many hearts were changed!

Prayer should radiate the presence of God – not screaming and intimidation.

I am correcting the last sentence in my first paragraph. I meant to type “ineffective” !!!

Hate and condemning only makes things worse.

Definitely! Not only are we praying for the mother and the soul of the child, but we serve as one last reminder of the importance of life as they walk into the facility.

There is nothing more powerful than praying the rosary.

God Bless,
Elsa
