*Praying* the LOTH / Little Office

This isn’t quite the same question as the other thread of similar name. I pretty much know how to find the right pages… now I was wondering if anyone had any advice on recognizing it as prayer. I don’t know the Psalms by heart yet, especially not when they are in Latin (Sometimes chant Latin Compline w/friends, and just got the Latin Little Office of the BVM), so perhaps it is simply a matter of getting used to it over time, like one does with the Mass when one is a child?

What I mean is, how to not simply read the words and think “oh, that’s nice” but to be talking to God.

Suggestion: Start off small and simple, with the LITTLE OFFICE OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, 1988 edition. In English, simply organized, with beautiful hymns, readings, and Psalms.

Just do Morning and Evening Prayer, perhaps also Compline, for a couple of weeks and see how you like it. On Sundays, my day off from work, I also add the Office of Readings and the day offices,. This is an excellent way to get into the pattern of such works, and you will be joining your prayers to the millions of others who recite this Little Office.
