I have a few questions concerning praying:
  1. If i cough or something in the middle of a prayer, should i say the prayer again, or just continue it?
  2. If i am praying the rosary and i’m kind of tired and i accidently start a glory be instead of a hail mary or something, should i finish the prayer i accidently started, or stop and say the correct prayer?
  3. If that happens, do i need to start the entire rosary over?
  4. When i am praying to God, what should i be like, thinking in my head? When i’m saying a prayer to a saint or to Jesus i usually picture an image of the person in my head. But God has no form so do i just clear my mind?

Here’s what I would do in each case. There aren’t really right or wrong answers with these. Praying is talking to God - there aren’t that many set-in-stone rules about it, just like there aren’t when you’re talking to family or friends.
  1. Just continue where you left off.
  2. Stop and say the correct one.
  3. Absolutely not!
  4. God the Father does have a form - Jesus said ‘who sees me sees the Father’ 🙂 So you can picture Jesus if you like. Or you can think about the person or thing that you’re praying about.

Thankyou for the much needed answers!
I was turning into a nutcase everytime i messed up a prayer.

Forgot to ask this:

When praying the rosary, should you say the “In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit” in between every Hail Mary, Our Father, etc?

Relax! God knows that you want to do well in your prayers. Your’re human, and humans do not pray “perfectly.” God is not like some mean and nasty judge scrutenizing each prayer and looking for you to mess up. He is so pleased that you want to be close to him. Would you be upset if one of your friends coughed while talking to you? Would you be upset if your friend made a mistake when talking to you? Of course not. Neither will our Lord be displeased with you.

So true. It is your will that you pray to God. Your heart wants to speak to him even if your brain and body make it difficult. God sees this. Don’t worry so much in prayer. If you lose track, just try and pick up where you left off.

Normally you’d make the sign of the cross at the beginning and the end of however much of the Rosary you pray in one sitting.

Sometimes I only have time to say one decade in a day - I’ll cross myself before and after that decade.

Sometimes I say a whole Rosary or even two - I’ll cross myself at the beginning and at the end of my prayers.

My abject humble OPINIONS…
  1. I would think the two choices were
A) Just continue the prayer
B) Get up, drink some water, take a cough drop if needed, then do A)
  1. I’d just finish the prayer started, then go on to the “correct” prayer.
  2. NO
  3. Actually, God The father has been pictured in art and on icons. Remember that picture of God on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? Meditate on that
Note: I may be dragging in some of my Pagan upbringing, but I tend to regard Mother Mary as level headed and reasonable, one who understands, and who even has a sense of humor. She is not going to be upset over a trifle error or two. She knows and understands that all of us are doing the best we can. That is enough. (Opinion)
