I was looking through old threads and could not find one on this topic, which surprised. I might have just missed it. But if I did, no harm in re-posting it since this is such a great piece of pro-life legislation.

On September 20, 2006 Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-Tenn) introduced the Pregnant Women’s Support Act (HR 6145)

Some of the provisions include:
  • Expanding adoption credit to $15K from $10K, with increases for inflation.
  • Grants (not to exceed $25K) to public higher education institutions to assist pregnant students who intend to carry their pregnancies to term through on-campus facilities.
  • States could receive grants “to increase public awareness of resources available to pregnant women who intend to carry their pregnancy to term and to new parents.” This could include the establishment of a pregnancy hotline to direct pregnant women to counseling and adoption services, and increase adoption centers.
  • Requires ‘informed consent’ before a women agrees to an abortion. Informed consent would entail counseling sessions which would be required to include: (1) The probable gestational age and characteristics of the unborn child at the time the abortion will be performed. (2) How the abortion procedure is performed.(3) Possible short-term and long-term risks and complications of the procedure to be performed. (4) Options or alternatives to abortion, including, but not limited to, adoption, and the resources available in the community to assist women choosing these options. (5) The availability of post-procedure medical services to address the risks and complications of the procedure.
  • Requires the Secretary of HHS to enter into an agreement with the Institute of Medicine to study the reasons why women choose to have an abortion.
Here is a link to an article on the bill and the bill itself:

Pax tecum!

Great news! Thanks for posting this!

The moment this would get signed into Law (which I hope it does) it would get challenged by Banned Parenthood. Why? Because they don’t want women knowing the truth about fetal development, they don’t want women seeing ultrasounds and they certainly don’t want women to know the dangers of the abortion procedure.

But lets all pray this gets passed in congress. :gopray::gopray:

How will they verify that the woman has gone through this conseling? Present her with a certificate that she can take to get her abortion legally? Didn’t the Vatican tell the Church in Germany or somewhere that they had to get out of that business as they couldn’t morally offer the certificate knowing what the woman was going to do with it? So who will offer the “counseling” here in the U.S.?
