I totally did NOT know your first language wasn’t English! Wow! I just thought you were typing too fast! When I make errors, it’s because I type 90 WPM. Your English is amazing, Esdra! I’m impressed! I was just joking with ya. Apologies if I made you feel bad; I was kidding around thinking it was a typo! 😛
Hey gurney,

as you may know, or no:My mother tongue is not English and therefore I had difficulties with the spelling of premarital. 😉
I then looked it up in the dictionary, but as one can see, wrote it wrong anyway. 😉

In “prematrial” you can see the word mother (lat. mater.) 😉 😛 - So “before becoming a mother?”

Man, I am so silly right know! 😃

I live in Baptist land (Kentucky) and the youth fornicate at the same rates as the general population. It doesn’t matter because they’re saved. Jesus Christ has paid for all their sins, past, present, and future, so sin away! 👍

“Pre-marital” sex is a misnomer, because in our age there is absolutely no reference between fornication and marriage. It’s fornication, and even saved unrepentant fornicators will not inherit the kingdom of heaven according to 1 Cor 6:9. So, I hope they don’t have an untimely death before repenting. Otherwise they’ll cry out Lord Lord and he will respond, why do you cry out Lord Lord and not do as I say?! I worry about them, because they have bought the corrupt ideas of the culture, and they don’t think it’s wrong, and you can’t be forgiven of a sin you haven’t repented of. If they die that way, chances are, …well, I won’t do God’s job.

The Baptist ladies here put their unmarried high school aged teenage daughters on the Pill and hold Bible studies on the Gospel of Judas.

So, sorry, your claims about superior Baptist behavior don’t have any weight with me, because I live in a Baptist culture and see what goes on first-hand.

They drink, too. I never saw covered drive-through liquor stores until I moved to Baptist country.

I think the OSAS of Baptists and the strict morality of Catholicism are both ignored by the populace at large, to be fair and objective. Most of my Catholic buddies in high school were “on the prowl” like maniacs looking for sex. My Baptist and other Protestant friends, too. In the Philippines, where my wife is from, almost everyone I meet every time I go there has a kid out of wedlock or is shacking up and just ignoring the Catholic Church’s teachings. Homosexuality in the Philippines is heavily-accepted/tolerated and considered cute. My wife is always appauled when we go back there and she sees practically everyone she knows and even most of her family in and out of sexual relationships with illegitimate babies all over the place, etc.

Catholics and Protestants are being assaulted by Satan and are giving in. And there are good folks in both that resist and fight the good fight. I know some Baptists that are such good folk it would knock your socks off, far holier and more sincere than myself. I know hypocrites and liars and libertines of all denominations. Satan is an equal-opportunity attacker…😦

Mhm, thought nearly everyone knows here in the meantime. 😉

But thank you. I am doing my best.
You know what? I’ve never been in an English speaking country so far.
I really love English. And at the moment I am studying it at University (together with Russian in Translation Studies.)

I know you were joking. 😉
I really didn’t know how to spell premarital sex. It’s the first time I used this word in English writing. 😃

If you are interested: My native language is German.

I think you can’t really compare that.
You are living in a Baptist dominated area, right?
You see, I am living in a Catholic dominated area.
This means the Baptist Church is mini here in Austria. And this also means that they really mean it when they say they are religious or also when they say that they won’t have premarital sex. At least I have so far none got to know who said, “Oh, premarital sex is grab. Why?” - And believe me: in the meantime I know A LOT of Baptists (also Penteocostals; as they are the same minority here and often work together with us) here
I am sure in areas where the CC is a minority Church this’ll be similar?

However, I can see your point when saying:
It doesn’t matter because they’re saved. Jesus Christ has paid for all their sins, past, present, and future, so sin away! 👍
.

This can really be a danger. - But actually, I often have the feeling that this is a prejudice from Catholics towards Evangelicals.
At least I have never heard someone saying, “Oh, we are saved, let’s sin!”
I have the conviction that when you are really reborn and Jesus is the master over your life, you’ll do everything to keep His commandments.
Because in John 14:15 it says:
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Isn’t the latest general statistic that 50% of American teens have sexual contact of one kind or another before the age of 20? I have never heard that this number is radically different from religious group to religious group.

But, I have not looked this up again…

Yes, I know that.
But as I have written before, the people I know who are Evangelical are really serious about that topic, however, most Catholics here in Austria are not.

I mean this “problem” doesn’t occur concerning premarital sex, but also other topics, like divorce or remarriage of divorced people.
Since I’ve been here in CAF I really got to know a lot about moral theology and theology and doctrine in general of the CC.
But I have the feeling that hardly none sticks to it. And I am asking myself, “Why?”

The “sin” of private sexual consensual sexuality is losing its taboo powers in the modern world. Clearly, people can couple and love each other deeply and permanently without marriage. Human sexuality is both a dangerous and beautiful thing, whether in a married couple or not. This understanding is much more widely held today. 🤷

I can see your point. Since the “sex revolution” in the 70ties this has already been so…
But my problem is that there are “rules” in all Christian denominations and hardly none sticks to it. So what is religion then for?
You see my point?

Esdras,

Perhaps your experience and that of Kentuckyliz are NOT so different after all. You BOTH have seen that the committment level of those of the predominating and ‘socially acceptable’ religious faith of your area is unimpressive at best, while the members of the minority faith community tend to be more personally committed to conforming themselves to the faith they profess.

Perhaps that’s a key element. When the faith COSTS you something (even if its just the label ‘weird’ in society), it tends to weed out the luke warm and reinforce the conviction of the committed.

Esdra, [comment from Esdra: Esdras is another user here, 'though he’s seldom online. ;)]

Yes, the difference between and Liz is that we both can’t imagine the other world. I mean she doesn’t know that there are devout Protestants in areas where they are the minority and I can’t imagine a lot of devout (I also know devout Catholics here in Austria, but knowing that the RCC is the majority Church here, they are really VERY FEW. - And getting even fewer considering the heavy loss of the CC the Church has to go through since the past few years…) in areas where the CC is the minority denomination/church.

I really like the sentence I’ve marked bold. 🙂 I think this is really true: The bigger the Church gets at one place the more luke warm it gets.
But actually that’s sad IMO. I mean Christianity in general is such a wonderful religion! People see the “boring” mass and the so non-devout other parishoners and leave the Church, but sadly enough, they don’t start searching, as I did, for a “more devout” community.
I mean I then completely ignored the CC when searching, if I wouldn’t have ignored, I probably would have come across the various Catholic (youth, but not only!) groups, first and foremost the Charismatic Renewal. - They are devout. In the meantime I know some. 🙂
Great people, really.

Apologies for the misspelling. Question though: Are you saying that you chose your religious convictions based on the way you FEEL in the community in question? Shouldn’t the choice be made based on doctrinal fidelity to the teaching of Christ? Just sayin…

As I mentioned before, I understand the draw of FEELING close to Christ. But feelings are a lousy thing to build convictions on. It drives me crazy to be surrounded in church by people who apparently have nothing to sing joyfully to God for. But that feeling is a shallow substitute for the reality of receiving Christ, body and blood in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. That’s what “being fed” is really all about!

What it has always been for.

I don’t really see your point, because I don’t know why you would peg the value of your faith to how others around you in church conduct themselves in their private sexuality. Jesus hardly concerned himself with that, after all. It may be important to you, but there is a lot more to Christianity than this. At least there was for me while I was a believer.
