Preparing for Judgement Day

In prepartion for judgement day…how will one know if they are healed from damage that sin creates?
If there is damage from previous sin, how does one know this before death? Will God see inside our heart and soul to find if we are totaly free of damage?
If we are not free of damage from sin, will we be sent to the hospital of purgatory to heal our soul and ready ourself for Heaven?
this has always been something that eludes me…please help!

I think the easiest way to be sure is to stay current with the sacrament of reconciliation. I end each day simply thanking God for all he has given me, even if I am not sure exactly what the gifts are for that particular day (I say I know that you are with me, forgive me for not being better aware of how becuase I feel…whatever right now when this time is particularly trying if that is the case), ask him to help me better know his will so that I can follow it, and beg forgiveness for any transgression I may have committed that may have offended him.

Simply put, I think that heaven is for those who try their best to follow God’s will in their lives; not because they fear hell, but because they sincerely do not want to hurt some one who loves us so much.

I don’t know that we will ever “know” until we stand before God.

As the previous poster said, frequent use of the Sacraments - all of them - is essential. Also, any and all suffering on this earth can be offered up in union with the suffereings of Christ for the remission of sins. In this way, our temporal sufferings on earth are a kind of “Purgatory.”

One thing is for certain: God will judge all appropriately. We ask all sorts of questions about judgment day, from personal concerns to questions about the jungle people who have never heard of Christ to our Jewish neighbor, and so on. In the end, only God can judge each person’s deeds in their proper context, and each and every one of us will know that God not only judged us 100% correctly, but there will be no argument from us to the contrary, regardless of judgment. We will accept it because we have no choice and we will know it to be exactly correct. And we will all know of God’s abundant mercy.

Perhaps Paul said it best:

1 Cor 4: 1: This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
2: Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.
3: But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself.
4: I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.
5: Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then every man will receive his commendation from God.

I try, although not always successfully, to live each day as if it were my last, avail myself of the sacraments, and not worry about it. Besides being just, God is also most merciful.
