Hey everyone,

I’m doing a presentation on sin at my young adults group on Wednesday. It should go for about an 1 - 1 and a half and is pretty interactive because we’re a small group (8 - 10 turn up regularly). It’s particularly aimed at the difference between venial and mortal sin. I’m just wondering if you have any ideas.

My structure will probably be as follows.
  • Sin - What is it?
  • Original Sin
  • Adam and Eve and the snake
  • The Effects of Sin
  • Jesus’ Role
  • Venial vs. Mortal Sin
  • Examples
  • Why is sexual sin such a big deal?
  • Confession
  • Why’s it important?
  • What’s actually happening?
  • Protestant Ideas of Sin
  • Catholic Rebuttals
Do you think this is a good structure? Would you add/take away anything?

Also could you suggest any resources? Particular internet ones (just because they’re the most accessible).

Also, what is the Catholic Church’s definition of evil? I was looking at the Catholic Encyclopedia’s definition and was so confused lol! Here’s the link → newadvent.org/cathen/14004b.htm

Thanks and God bless,
Beth

I taught RCIA on this topic and used broad categories: Original Sin, Consequences of Original Sin, Personal Sin, and Summary, not that this matters so much. I also included some general questions at the end based on Scripture readings for discussion. If you’d like I can send what I have and you can see if any of it might be useful. It’s mainly complete, partially draft, part outline, with some late additional notations added for consideration for the next time I teach on it.
