President Aquino’s recent announcement that he would be pushing forward with the reproductive health (RH) bill has set off a firestorm of reactions from various sectors, including the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), a representative of which has threatened Aquino with excommunication.

I hope the bishops don’t back down. The Filipino people need their bishops to be strong witnesses for the Faith in face of opposition- and the whole Church needs to see a good example of the Church resisting a government’s undermining of Catholic teaching.

Agreed. De facto non catholics who happen to be cradle catholics bringing scandal to the Church has reached epidemic proportions.

The Holy Father himself hs recognised the reality the the Church in the foreseeable future will be smaller in numbers and frankly allowing non believers shelter in her embrace whilst actively undermining her mission is a scandal in itself. Let us not fear the reality that many soi disant catholics are no such thing in reality.

I agree.

Pro-RH Bill are riding under the banner of Freedom of Informed Choice.

So it’s "Freedom of Informed Choice vs Catholic Stance on Sexual Morality"

Such situation is the cause of moral confusion and uncertainty.

It appears that some bishops are sneaking through the selection procedure with intact backbones. 👍

What do you mean by that?

There is also an issue of “Separation of Church and State”. Problem is that more or less 90% of Filipino Catholics are Pro-RH and believes that Church should not intervene on State affairs. I am dismayed about what is happening in our country. I know that the moral obligation to obey civil authority is in direct proportion to the seriousness of the law in terms of its effect on our well-being and well-being of others. People should understand that.

You agree then that that separation forbids the State to regulate Church moral teachings or its requirement that its members heed them.
