Hi Everyone,
I know that everyone’s time is at a premium. And it is probably an issue everyone struggles with. However, I was unemployed for over a year and for the past month have worked full time (thanks be to God). However, I am still not use to all this lack of free time.
Previously, I was on flex hours ie as long as I put in my 8 hours at the office, I could show up anytime before 10am. I am now at a place where one needs to be there by 8:45 at the latest. I try to get there for 8 or 8:15 because there are things I want to do in the early evening.
Also, at my past job I was really spoiled. It was a 15 minute bike ride. I LOVE riding my bike. Well, this job is a 20 minute drive on a traffic free day. I no longer have the opportunity to ride my bike daily which is like taking away my ‘prozac’
At my last job, there was a really nice cafeteria. Every day I bought my lunch which included 2 portion of vegetables, reasonably priced. Now, not only do I have the extra chore of packing a lunch, I have the extra chore of preparing vegetables which to person living alone is time consuming.
I have sleep issues, even though I go to bed at 10pm, I toss and turn for a minimum of 2 hours before falling asleep no matter how tired I am.
Also, at my last job, I knew what I was doing and had the freedom to plan my day. I am still being trained on a lot of things. I have NO control over my day. My manager is REALLY busy. Whenever she has a bit of free time, she comes to show me stuff. I am CONSTANTLY having to have to drop what I am doing. I do it with a big smile on my face because I am trying to make a good impression, but there are times in the back of my mind I am thinking ‘May I please have 30 seconds, where is the fire?’
Also, my manager really wanted to get out on time yesterday. I see her point of view. She sat beside me and said ‘bring up your questions on the computer’. I still need time to know where my eyes are to focus and I was typing in the computers . As I was typing she said ‘what is your question’. I stopped typing to answer and she said ‘Keep typing, I though you could type and talk at the same time’. Sadly, I can’t, that is when I enter the wrong things in the screen. Then, as I finished one question, I paused, to which she snapped ‘Hurry up next question’
Lastly, living alone can get lonely, I try to plan activities outside of the house so that I can be with other people, but the truth is, it does get VERY wearing on the soul when the only reason I am with people is ‘functional’ ie to not be alone as opposed to ‘relational’ ie to share in friendship.
Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful to God for the job and having seen a lot of things in the work force, I do believe this is a good place to be. I want to make it work and I really am hoping that if I just keep plugging, eventually these things will all settle down. ie I will be in routine where I will fall asleep on time, I will know what I am doing and not need to be trained.
Well, that is my vent, thanks for reading
