Greetings and Salutations! I’m trying to come up with a simple way to ask this question. On a Protestant End-Times forum where I post, I posted that while in the Garden, Adam and Eve had preternatural gifts, gifts that were lost in the Fall. I also stated that the charisms of the Holy Spirit listed in Scripture (Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear [Respect] of the Lord) are all preternatural gifts, a restoration in part of gifts Adam and Eve possessed but were lost because of the Fall.
Now that I’ve posted that, I have this doubt in my mind, wondering if this is accurate or even true.
For the record, in my post I gave a definition by example of preternatural:
Throughout Christian history, there have been people (usually saints, but not always) who have been able to tell which hosts in a pile of hosts have been consecrated at Mass for Holy Communion. Those who can simply sense which hosts are consecrated have a preternatural gift; those who know because “their guardian angel told them” have a supernatural gift (i.e., angelic communication). Supernatural gifts are always viewed with much more caution because you have to be able to discern if the gift is from G_D or NOT from G_D.
So, to reiterate, are the charisms (gifts) of the Holy Spirit a restoration in part of the preternatural gifts possessed by Adam and Eve before the Fall?
