Anyone ever ask a Priest to be a God Parent? We are considering our friend Ft Ted to be our daughters God Father. His name keeps coming up to us.
Thanks Eric

Godparents don’t take the child if something were to happen to the parents. They are responsible to see that the child is brought up as Catholic, if this is not done by the parents. A godparent has the duty of looking upon the baptized person as his spiritual child, of providing for him, when neccesary, the proper religious education, and of guarding him spiritually, even when he is grown.I think you should ask. We have a dear friend who is a priest. He is godfather to his nephew and a host of others; however I am not sure how comfortable he and other priests are with this as they have so many commitments and should anything happen to you, he may not be able to take the child as traditionally godparents do.
I would just ask) He could always perform the ceremony and that would be special.
