We’re moving into our new home this week, and I thought that just before we do it might be a good idea to have a priest bless the house. Does anyone know if this is still commonly done? It won’t hurt to call our new parish and ask, but I thought some of you might have experience with this!

I guess the only real reason I’m hesitating is that I don’t know anything about the parish in this town or its priest, and while we’re coming from a very orthodox parish, in general this is a pretty liberal diocese.

I had my house blessed, it was a very pleasant experience, and I’ll do it again when we move some day.

I think it would be a great way to introduce yourself to your new priest actually! Invite him to lunch with your family, and ask him if he can give a blessing on your new home.

Congrats on moving! How exciting!

Generally only if it’s built by a Catholic builder.

Only kidding, most priests will be happy to do so, don’t forget to invite him over for dinner some time.
