How much does one donate to the main celebrant priest and then the co-celebrant priests.

I have a lot of friends/priests that I would love to have at our wedding. I don’t mind if they stand among the family and friends present but it makes more sense that they are co-celebrants.

My fiance and I are trying to keep costs down so what are your thoughts on inviting a priest to a wedding or asking them to co-celebrate with overall wedding costs in mind.

Also stated at the start of this post what would the cost be for main & co-celebrants.

Thank you!

There may be an optional “stole-fee” for the officiant (who actually does the wedding rite for you) and the church may charge a fee for having it there. A Con-Celebrant wouldent expect anything, though it may be nice to invite them all to the reception for a meal 🙂

Stole fees/stipends vary from diocese to diocese and a diffrent churches may charge diffrent rates to have the wedding there.

Also, the sacrament stipend is typically not for the priest personally. In our diocese all monies for baptism, marriages, funerals, etc, go into the parish works of charity fund.

You must give something over and above that amount for it to go to the priest, and it has to be clearly designated as a gift to the priest personally and not the parish.

Mass stipends, OTOH, go to the priest.

In this diocese the clergy keep all Stipends/Stole fees for sacraments and funerals and use it to suplement their income.

Short of the reception dinner, I’ve never heard of any sort of stipend in any situation for concelebrants.

Thank you for all your comments.
The church is in DC and advises a 5 to 10% of total wedding cost donation to the church.
The priest is from the Arlington VA diocese and will need to be bonded to celebrate in DC (we will pay for the cost of this process) and the two other priests who will con-celebrate are also from other parishes one MD other VA.

All will be invited to the reception. I also find because the wedding is 9 months away a few priests have said that they can’t confirm yet and need to wait till 3 months out before they confirm.
