Priest did not say "Body of Christ" before giving Communion

I received the Eucharist from a priest at yesterday’s mass, in which the priest simply handed me the communion wafer without saying the customary “Body of Christ”. I cannot recall that this has ever happened to me before! Im sure that it was a valid reception of the Eucharist, although not 100% sure!
 
Do you think the host deconsecrated or something? That’s the only way it would be an “invalid” reception, and I assure you the host did NOT deconsecrate.

Give the priest a break. Maybe he made a mistake. Maybe he had to suppress a cough or sneeze.

And just maybe YOU are the one who didn’t hear him say, “Body of Christ.”
 
In the Latin Mass, the priest doesn’t say “the Body of Christ,” so it’s fine.

Yes, it may have been a simple error on the part of the priest.

Cluny, we don’t have to be so snappy in our answers while on this forum.

Blaskoman, as long as during the Mass the regular consecration took place then it’s still valid. When we say “Amen” we are stating that we agree and understand that it is the Body of Christ. Like I said, could’ve just been a little error on the the priest’s part, but you’ll be ok, you still get all the good stuff that comes with recieving Communion 😃
 
guess I simply wasnt thinking—duh! of course the Host cannot deconsecrate itself! just thought it was odd that the priest was silent, and it has never happened to me b4…and no, I definately know for a fact the priest was silent.
 
Occasionally, I have seen the priest get addled a bit by not saying the words, the Body of Christ…but I will loudly say after bowing my head. Amen when he moves to distribute Communion to me. I can still attest my faith but uttering these words

Haven’t you ever done that to someone,…you answer Thank you for them( even though they omitted that when you offered them something) , in hopes that they will pick up the cue. Usually, they will pick up their omission and repeat Thank you!

Give the priest the benefit of the doubt and not that it is a regular occurence, unless the priest is a deaf mute.
 
LOL at a Mass in a parish near me (we missed our scheduled Mass due to car problems) I was the first one up for communion. (We were expecting a Byzantine Liturgy and the visiting priest did RC) Well this elderly priest seems to have a habit of handing the container of the consecrated hosts to the first in line so he does not drop them (God Bless him he is very old and shakes). Now I am one of those people that do not believe in EM’s and won’t read from the altar. So here I was handed the Blessed Hosts and in shock just stood there like a deer caught in someones head lights.

My daughter was trying so hard not to laugh out loud. It is a wonder I did not drop them.

So there I stood while Father took them one at a time and placed them on the tongue of those that approached. Then when it was my turn (I was last so yes the first was last:)) the priest and I were so flustered he forgot to say “the Body of Christ” and I forgot to say “Amen”.

The irony is I now attend the Liturgy there a couple times a week when it is being said.:D:thumbsup:

Everyone makes a mistake now and then. 🙂 Now if he is ALWAYS like this, then we have a conversation! 😉

I have had this happen two Sunday’s in a row, started to worry. Same for my husband. I said “Amen” as I always do. I am so glad to have found this site, was all over internet trying to find answer, thank you and God Bless:)
