Priest says ok to communion/state of mortal sin?

i recently found out that my’mother in law’ who divorced her husband, but lives with her fiance of 17 years was told by her priest that she could receive communion, if she ‘obstained from sex’ until the day of her daughter’s wedding…

this is why i feel the church is losing members,

when, i know, first hand, that she and her former husband cheated on each other.

does it even matter if a person lies to a priest to put their own spin on things?

i was the victim of abuse physically, mentally and emotionally by my 1st husband,
told me in a fight that he and his family converted to being russian orthodox and they do not recognize our marriage

i have been torn between all of this to file for my own anuulment and have to wait until 2 more years to go through a religious education program to do so…this is totally unfair and i believe that priests do not have the right to make changes just to appease a parishioner or be afraid of losing one…

also, this woman was only raised to go through the catholic church and receive all of her sacraments, because it is the 'hardest religion to get into…"

very confused and hurt by the favoratism…i don’t think God intended priests on making their own changes or re-writing the rules to the bible…

please help me understand…

actually you recently found out what she or someone else told you a priest said in confession. If you were not in the confessional you do not know, nor is it any of your business, what was said.

So your ‘mother in law’ lied to a priest, or purposefully misled one, and you’re blaming the priest for what he told her assuming she was telling the whole, complete, and nothing but the truth? I don’t see how the Church is at fault there.

I could be misunderstanding what you’ve said, but that’s how I understood it. If nothing else, I suggest talking to a priest (a, not the) about it yourself. People in religion life often times have a better grasp on religious concerns than others. Not always, but oftentimes.

ACTUALLY, SHE TOLD ME HERSELF…AND SINCE YOU HAVE SUCH AN ATTITUDE, SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE ONLY REASON SHE BECAME CATHOLIC, WAS BECAUSE HER MOTHER TOLD HER THAT GETTING INTO THE CATHOLIC RELIGION WAS THE HARDEST RELIGION, SO GET HER SACRAMENTS DONE, SO IT NEVER KICKS HER IN THE BUTT LATER IN LIFE…NOT BECAUSE SHE REALLY BELIEVES, AGAIN, AS SHE TOLD ME HERSELF…!!!

ALSO, SHE DOES NOT BELIEVE IN THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION AND DOES NOT BELIEVE IN PURGATORY OR HELL.

A priest can not actually do such…

If the person is not going to repent…if the person does not fix the situation…etc…they can not receive the Sacraments.

Unfortunately…just as in anything…sometimes people do what they should not…but such is not what they should. Not the teaching of the Church…A person can not just “repent of a mortal sin for a period while planning to return to it”…

Sorry such has happened.

Know though that such should not have happened…

Know too that Jesus loves you …and desires to give us true life.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church:
