Priest to marry being considered

Women cannot be priests. Pope John Paul II asked that it not be discussed further. Why not? What is the point in continuing to talk about something that is a done deal? Doing so is just stirring the pot. Some people like to do that. Some people seem to like beating a dead horse.
Absolutely correct!..Bullseye! Christ founded His Church to fulfill the will of God not the will of the people. Sadly, many, many Catholics seem to believe in the latter rather than the former.

MY point is saying these things should be DISCUSSED is to see if a larger role for Married Men and Women could open up the schedule for the Priest.

We should never forget that it was not long ago that Eucharistic Ministers were allowed to assist in Mass and given the ability to bring Communion to the sick, the Mass was said in LATIN not English, that William Tyndale was executed for translating the Bible into English and Galileo was tried for heracy for suggesting that the Earth revolved around the Sun.

A conversation is not heresy… a conversation is a search for an answer to a known issue.

Should we go back to thinking the Earth was at the center of the universe?? Should all of the people who serve Communion in Church on Sunday sit down?? Should the sick be denied the sacrament of communion because there are not enough Priests to go around?? Should the Mass only be understood by the elite who had schooling in Latin??

All of these things were once considered heresy for suggesting they be discussed but all of these things are now accepted.

I actually don’t like the idea of women priests but I feel if the discussion is opened up we could find a larger role for women there by assisting the over taxed Priest.

As for Married Priests… a Church with 2 full time single, and celebate Priests would be better served with 2 full time and 2 “part time” married Priests. There are many churches with no Priest (one Priest taking care of 2 Parishes) and they would also be better served by ADDING a Married Priest as a backup. This is what the Deaconate is about but maybe their role should be expanded.

But how does this mesh with the fact that there are married priests now, and was centuries ago?

And…why would there be a differentiation between a priest who is married before he becomes ordained, as opposed to after?
1 Timothy 3:1-3
The saying is sure: whoever aspires to the office of bishop desires a noble task. 2 Now a bishop[c] must be above reproach, married only once, temperate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an apt teacher, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and not a lover of money.
