Where do you get the idea that other colors should be “discouraged”?

Sorry, the reason I am confused is because I did not see the word “opinion” in your posts. Just the strong words “preference” and “discouraged” as if you were speaking with some sort of authority. So I was obviously curious as to where that authority came from.

Now I know its just your opinion I know where to put that in my thoughts on the matter.

Maybe it is my preference that people use black type too:) I almost used all upper case letters to say that

That is fine. I just think we need to stated it as our personal preference rather than allowing it to appear as if it is the preference of the Church.

Having said that, I have a habit so I wear brown (or brown and white if I wearing the habit mantle (cloak)) but if I do wear clerics (and there are a number of personal reasons why I might choose to wear clerics rather than the habit) I wear black. My personal preference is black as well, but I do not state it in such a manner as to confuse this with what the Church says. As far as I can tell the Church (and my order) is silent on the issue of other colors.
 
when I took my priest for his KofC 4th degree, someone mistook him for a deacon due to his eastern priestly attire! Then tried to tell him he had to be in a tuxedo . . . We had to straighten him out . . .

Many (most? All?) RC diocese in the Us prohibit clerics attire for deacons outside the liturgical setting. Eastern Catholic eparchies, though, tend to mandate it for anything church related (socials, knights meetings, etc.)

Certainly not all, as the deacon at my parish wears grey clerics for any function that is remotely official–meetings, visiting the sick, etc. We recently discussed clerical dress, and our bishop gives him the freedom to do this, though it is not mandated.
 
I’ve never seen a priest wear grey slacks, but have often seen priests and deacons wear grey clerical shirts. In fact in the Diocese of Belleville (Illinois) the standard is that permanent deacons must wear grey clerical shirts to distinguish themselves from priests. I think this is a great idea and would support it in other dioceses, as long as the local Bishop would be okay with it.

That shirt looks white on my monitor. Off-white, I guess, but white. Must be a pretty light gray! 🙂
