Can someone direct me or show me samples of ads for the priesthood?

See, I’m in the process of building a computer for video editing and would like very much to film a “short film” (much like an ad) about the priesthood. I’d like to see some samples so I can at least make a sample “poster” via Photoshop/Illustrator. I can’t say much except this, I want to make priests look good. After the beating they took and what they actually go through, I think they deserve better. I think that the Holy Spirit gave me the urge to do so as well.

I have a few ideas lined up but I would like to study a few ads before I really start.

Of course any ideas will also help. Wish me luck!

While living in Toronto some time ago (over 25 years), the archdiocesan vocations director had billboards depicting a rather gruesomely crucified Christ with the caption “Dare to be a priest like Me!”
We are not doing enough in the way of publicizing the need for candidates or the positive aspects of the job. A well thought out advertising campaign would be a good idea. We need to attract a lot more young men to the priesthood. I’ve been criticized for advocating an ad campaign but if what you’re doing isn’t getting the job done, then it’s time to try something else.

Ok, I agree. What elements should there be in an ad for priesthood, might I ask? And what should be avoided on that same note.

You should stress the courage it needs to become a Priest today and the strength God gives you. You don’t need big stories or big events, stick to reality and the life of a parish priest sorta thing. Don’t give the false impression of priesthood with a Super Priest ad.

I don’t think much should be avoided, just don’t talk about the paycheck.

That billboard won a 1984 Marketing Gold award in the outdoor horizontal category. Controversial, it got people to talk about the subject (although I am not sure if it actually increased the number of guys considering the priesthood).

Oh no, I’m not. Hmm, you’ve given me something to think about. I will ponder on this. Thank you.

How about this?

God In The Streets Of New York City

Very powerful video, brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Makes me long for the day of my ordination (God Willing).

The best ad for the Priesthood I’ve seen was in the Archdiocese of Chicago, on a billboard next to a highway. It was a black sign, with a small white square at the top in the center. Then, in white letters, it said:

Looking for a sign? This is it.

It was simple, to the point, and very eye-catching. It got people thinking, I’m s ure.

The Chicago Archdiocese actually has a whole bunch of really cool ads for the priesthood. They’re all over the place at my high school. Beyond the one mentioned by Bigwill, there’s a whole series of ads, all featuring the same basic aesthetic (a simple black-and-white priest collar with a catchy phrase beneath) with messages such as “Yes, you get to fight evil. No, you don’t get to wear a cape.”

I haven’t been ablt to find the ads on google myself, but perhaps with a thororough search, one would be able to find these ads…

You should show priests under attack and parallel them to Jesus and the Apostles under attack.

Jesus being scourged, priests being imprisoned
I can’t really think of any more but they are there 😉

I know you’re looking more at video, but I thought this would be a good place to share these:

There was an article in the Michigan Catholic on this guy (I know him, our families are close, though I haven’t seen him in a while), a graphic designer who was inspired to start creating vocation posters. Here’s the article:

This is a wonderful idea!!! I recommend going to Youtube.com and searching for videos on the priesthood, there are a few. I recommend making in appealing to high school and college age. We need more amazing priests! You will be in my prayers!

Rip them off the walls and scan them for us, Andy. They’re just going to get trashed come June (if not sooner), anyway! 😉

My religion teacher from last year was working with the Archdiocese at that time and told us about that ad.

Wow… wonderful.
This got me thinking to start a series of poster ads. It’s a pity that in Singapore the vocation to the diocesan priesthood is very low. There are 6 seminarians only, 2 in 2nd year, 2 in 3th year and 2 in 4th year.

I just think that people are not aware of this and many people are after success; career, financial, etc. Thus, vocation to the priesthood is neglected.

I’ll see what I can do for it. =)
