This question may sound odd, but hopefully someone can help…

I often see priests adn are amazed at their ability to share the faith to catholics and noncatholics alike in a way that is unfathomably loving and in christ. Simply put… I want that I want to have that knowledge, I want to have that way of life if you will (but done as a husband so i can be that way with my wife)

In otherwords, i want to learn as much as i can what is taught to priests. I know it is mroe than reading the bible and understanding the ccc. I also understand that it is a multi year investment. Is there any refrences out there and or and way to actually read the same books used to teach new priests so that i can gain a more complete understanding of how to live in christ in much the same manner i see good priests do?

Thanks

What a wonderful goal! We should all have this desire - what a difference we’d make in a very dark world.

I’m wondering though if this is something that can be aquired by reading books? My thought is it’s much more of a Holy Spirit within us sort of thing? I think living in Chirst is always submitting to His will - always putting God first - serving others before ourselves - that sort of thing. I would think that the best way to do this would be to pray pray pray for God to fill you… use you… and then attend mass & receive the sacrements as often as possible.

I think one reason Priests are so wonderful at the things you mentioned is because they have devoted their entire lives to Christ and they don’t have the distractions (for lack of a better word?) of a wife and family. God has called you to be a husband - so you can “live in Christ” by being the very BEST husband - the very best father (if you have children) or the very best neighbor. It’s how we live our lives that people notice - so much more than what we know or say.

Just my thoughts…

go to a good orthodox Catholic college or seminary and get a degree in theology. Many seminaries welcome lay students as well as seminarians. But first discern what your vocation is. Are you already married? that is your vocation. If you are not married, first discern that.

then discern what is your career, how does God want you to use your gifts to build his Kingdom in the world? then if theology is the best way to carry out that career go for it.

Just some suggestions:

Have you thought of going to a Spiritual Director?
Go to daily mass?
Go to confession every 2 weeks?

These are things that will bring you many graces, IMHO.

Peace!

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut guys…

I know my vocation is as a husband, and simply put, I want to be as good at it as possible. I know it sounds realy funny, but I basicly want to be a priest for my wife. Not because i think she needs guidence, but just because that sort of devotion to god, and to my wife could only help our marrige grow.

I know it sounds weird, and i ceartainly hope it doesnt come off as arragant. My thought it is how better to treat my wife (and hopefully one day children) in the same manner that a priest tends his parrish for christ

cheers

Not weird at all! Beautiful…

May God continue to be in your heart always. Your wife is blessed to have you!

Peace in Christ,

Hello!

I’m an undergraduate seminarian studying for the priesthood, so I know exactly what you mean when you talk about the warmth and love of priests. Honestly, the gift of love can’t be learned through books. The only books that might be able to help would be books about the lives of the saints, but this is rather imitation of the saints than something read that is acquired.

Above all, love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. We communicate to the Father through Jesus Christ with the power of the Holy Spirit in prayer. Thus, I believe prayer is the first step to growing in love and warmth. Ask and it will be given you. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it shall be opened to you. God responds to our prayers, and he responds greater the more frequently we request something of great value to us. Look up the Efficacious Novena (prayed daily by St. Pio) and pray it daily. Next, start practicing loving others more. Don’t wait for the prayers to “kick in.” Just start loving! The prayers will be answered in God’s time. Practice patience to combat impatience and anger. Practice humility to combat feelings of pride over being “better” than others. Again, practice humility to relieve the burden of others. You will practice the two-fold path of humility (thinking less of yourself, and thinking of yourself less).

One book I would recommend reading is the Imitation of Christ by Thomas Kempis. It is a classic and filled with many ways to live a loving life. Of course, just reading it will do nothing - it’s the constant practice of love that will show you how to love more deeply.

These are the things I’ve found help me. I too have the same goal: to love as Christ loved (I believe this is what the priests do that you refer to).

God bless you!

Talk to the guys/priests of the parishes of www.iveamerica.org they are in many states, and worldwide, sound, and orthodox new order. Contact the fathers, under “parishes.” They are friendly, and helpful and young guys for the most part.

Actually, it has been well said that man’s natural vocation is to be “priest”, whether that is for his wife and family or for the Christ and His Church. So I think you have absolutely the right idea, in a way most men never fathom.
