Priests have never been allowed to marry; have they?

I am sure this has been asked before…but it came up again last night andI don’t have the answer… or know where to find it. I am pretty sure that priests have never been allowed to be married. My brother-in-law says that priests were allowed to marry up in the time of the crusades… what is the correct answer? Thank you.
 
Hi,

Priests in both the East and West were allowed to be married in the early years of the Church. From the tenth century on, only married men of the eastern rites have been allowed to be ordained to the priesthood. And this is the case today.
