Hi all,

In this year of mercy, I have been looking at participating in some sort of Prison ministry. My donation dollars are few, in keeping with my income, so writing a check wont feel really meaningful to me. I am more of a "hands on guy, serving food to the homeless, delivering a nursing home Christmas gift myself at Christmas, habitat builds, and so on.

Can anyone recommend a Catholic prison ministry that has vetted inmates for a serious interest in Catholicism, so I might write him or her, send a rosary, a Bible, put a few dollars in a canteen account, pray for and so on? Any other ideas or suggestions?

A 1000 thanks,
-e

Even better, contact the chancery of your local diocese. There is almost certainly a prison ministry that you can become involved in where you actually go into the prison and help with retreats and Bible studies. You will meet some of the most amazing people. The Catholic community in the prison where I have been involved calls themselves “The Community of St. Dismas,” and is the most sincere and devout “parish” I’ve ever experienced.
