Hi all,
I wonder how many of you have participated in a private retreat. I am planning to spend a few days in a Jesuit retreat house, alone, under the direction of a Jesuit father, to renew my bond with God and regain my strength after a terribly trying year.
Any advice on how to prepare, or any personal experience you would share with me would be greatly appreciated.

I have made several IGRs (individually guided retreats). It is a wonderful, wonderful thing, and I have no doubt you will be richly blessed. The Jesuits are stars :-). Are you going to Guelph by any chance?

The only advice I would give is to be open, and to not set an agenda before you go - I’ve found that God has a much better idea of a useful way to spend the time than I think I have 🙂 . Also, it’s best not to bring books or anything to distract you. Bring a journal, and art materials if that’s something you find helpful. If you surrender to the silence you’ll soon find the silence is not an empty silence.

Have a wonderful time. I know you will!

Thank you, Eddy. I think I will go to a Jesuit house in Hungary, where I will spend my holiday. And yes, I will try to get rid of all distractions - my standard failure is I keep seeking something else to think of, it is hard to stay centered nowadays. That’s why I thought of an IGR (thanks for the language bit!)
God bless.
