John Kerry stated he believes LIFE BEGINS at CONCEPTION.

He states he is personally against ABORTION but feels he should NOT impose his beliefs on others. Kerry said he therefore will not interfere with anothers “choice” whether or not to have (an) ABORTION.

Let’s substitute the other words for ABORTION like…

-What would Black People think of this statement if Kerry substituted the word SLAVERY for Abortion??

-What would the Jews think of Kerry’s statement if he substituted the word THE **HOLOCOST **for Abortion??

-What would the rest of the world think if Kerry substituted the word TERRORISM for Abortion??

-Let’s call Abortion what it really is and substitute the word MURDER for Abortion!

Here’s a few other words you can substitute: Euthanasia, Infanticide, Polygamy, Pedaphilia, Laws & Rules. Can you think of other words?

Let’s face it – Kerry has no guts, cannot stand by his moral beliefs and has no character!!

This is a very clear and cogent argument. I think it needs to be used more in the public sphere. I don’t think some of the rhetoric of the pro life movement has been effective and such a rational approach might work more effectively with the secularists.

I strongly disagree with Senator Kerry on the issue of abortion. However, applying the above to George Bush, he comes off better but still a failing grade. Bush says he is pro-life but the nation is not ready to ban all abortions until we create, in the words of his speechwriter, " a culture of life".

Which would lead one to ask:

It is not a matter of President Bush coming off better than Senator Kerry, there is no comparison! Because the country isn’t ready to ban all abortions, President Bush gets a failing grade? I miss the logic. I have to give you a failing grade. 😦

Slavery is okay if a coutnry is not ready to ban it?

The holocaust is okay if a country is not ready for Jews?

I don’t defend Senator Kerry’s views on abortion. I also think the oringinal post was extreme and if that is the test we judge men by, both Senator Kerry and Bush fail it.

Find another test.

FYI:

Drew Mariani is on Relevant Radio right now, go on the internet to find it if they don’t broadcast in your state. He is having a pro life show and he just said, he thinks we will overturn Roe v. Wade.
Norma is talking now.

They have a listen live icon on the top of the page. It is a great station.

Please show me a quote where President Bush says that abortion is okay. Until then, your logic is full of holes. Give it up. 😦

You substitute actions that are illegal for one that is legal, that’s why you reach a faulty conclusion. Try instead to substitute a similarly legal term for abortion:

I don’t like Mullets but i won’t stand inthe way of other people getting them if they want.

See how that makes perfect sense?

Not entirely true. Slavery was once “legal.” Legal doesn’t translate into moral or ethical. In my readings from the period leading up to the Civil War, I’ve come across references where political and civil leaders made statements nearly identical to this in reference to slavery. They were predominantly northerners who were not abolitionists.

It may not make sense to those who are regulars on these boards. BUT Until you can convince everyone that an embryo/fetus is in fact a human being endowed with its own individual rights…abortion will be defended as an issue of choice, medical treatment, birth control and the like. Since we’re far from unity even among self-professed Catholics, other Christians, much less the larger population, we will be debating this issue for generations to come.

Of course Legal and ethical are different. That doesn’t change the fact that Kerry’s statements are perfectly logical if abortion is compared to other legal activities or choices.

You may disagree that it should be legal but for the time being it is.

Just because its legal does not make it right, ethical or moral, or any less evil.

I don’t disagree with your point that abortion is currently legal and the other actions are currently illegal. My only point is that similar statements were being made by civil leaders and politicians when slavery was legal. That’s all.
