OK, I am a speaker with a local educational pro-life group. One of our new ventures is to sponser “Teen Nights”- the goal is to both educate an inspire action/activism in the teens. I am starting out by going to a few teen groups to talk on the issue of abortion. The next step, after getting an interested base, would be to have large group “Teen Nights” with 200+ teens in attendence and hire nationally known speakers, possibly bands, etc. The end goal would be to make a “Teens For Life” group active in our area (Central New York), we, Friends For Life (www.friendsforlifeinc.org) would remain an Advisory- type group for them.

So- I am right at the beginning of this process. I have a couple of hours with 2 different youth groups in the area. I need ideas to get started. I have a computer CD “Truth Unmasked” which features teens talking about abortion, shows fetal development, talks about abortion procedures, statistics, etc… I am sure there must be some kind of projector which I could hook up to my Macintosh Power Book to show that. That CD would take about 20 minutes to show.

I would love suggestions/ideas for what else to do. I think educating/energizing the youth is going to be the way to end abortion.

OK, one more thing. I have been asked to do an abstinence presentation at a local Church for the Confirmation Class. I usually only speak on abortion, so abstinence talks are a whole new thing for me. I imagine I’ll have about an hour and a half. Could someone recommend a fabulous video? 😃 The only things I have found so far are either a bit outdated (stuff my group has) or whole programs which require like 5 hous or more with workbooks.

Help! :)TIA!

there is the March for life on i think its Jan. 21st? correct me if im wrong. but anyway its in Washington D.C.

I’m a 17 year old senior in high school. If you want to ask me any extra questions feel free to pm me.

Now as to your question, show the students “The Silent Scream” nothing turned teens pro-life in my class quicker than that.

Pam Stenzel is a good chastity speaker. We showed one of her videos to our confirmation class a couple of years ago. My suggestion is don’t reinvent the wheel. There are good speakers and programs out there. See what’s successful and adapt it to your needs. Fan the Fire in York, PA is popular. It’s not just prolife, but a day for Catholic teens- music, speakers, Mass, confession . . . They split the guys and girls up for the chastity related talk. Same with Mount 2000 at Mt St. Mary’s in Emmittsburg, MD. It’s a full weekend of speakers, music, adoration, Mass etc and includes same sex chastity talks. Anyway, check out some of these established events, see what they offer and it might help your project. —KCT

Thanks for the suggestions so far (hoping to hear from some more folks too ;)).

I picked up a couple of chastity videos from our resource center last night that I’ll try to watch today, one is Pam Stenzel 👍 .

On the chastity talks, I would like to just mainly use a good video- talk a bit, and have hand-outs, etc. I have no desire to re-invent that wheel.

The Teen Nights, I do need something I can do, provide, etc. It needs to be local. We have a Birthright Center, another CPC and the Educational Pro-life group that I am with here in the city, all of these groups have a real NEED for new, young members/volunteers, and so these “Teen Nights” are aimed at providing our region here with new pro-life activists. This area is infamous for the first post- Roe Planned Parenthood abortion, and other horrid things, this are really needs to keep the pro-life movement going.

I am open to specific ideas on videos for the chastity talk, like this one I am thinking of ordering from this site:

Romance Without Regret with Jason Everett. Has anyone seen it?

Silent Scream and videos like it are VERY powerful tools, and I have seen them work in amazing ways. The Teen Nights I am doing though will be with Teen who already identify as pro-life, we may use the videos though just to evoke a sense of urgency and responsibility to get to work and DO something to stop this horrible travesty.

Thanks for any more thoughts on these subjects I can use all the help I can get 😉 .

Jess:

Where are you guys from. I am in a Catholic band called seven sorrows, we do talks on abortion/contraception and have songs about the same thing.

I haven’t seen that one, but most anything by Jason Evert is good. My teens really like him! —KCT

This is an awesome thread!
Jason Evert is INCREDIBLE!!
so is Pam Stenzel, check out hertiagehouse76.com for more of her stuff
I’m 17 and some in a group called SIA Sexual Integrity Advocates: we give chastity talks to conf. classes and schools! its so awesome and a lot of fun- I have a lot more resources and tips but I’ll try to post later- im in a hurry! keep up the good work!

The book Romance without Regret is an excellent tool to use for your talk on chastity. I know when I saw Jason Evert speak they had free booklets titled Pure Love by Jason Evert that were really good. It is basically a very short and condensed verison of Romance Without Regret. If you can somehow get those booklets to hand out…that would be a great tool to use. I know I constantly refer back to mine.
