Proclaiming the mystery

In The First Letter to the Corinthians, Chapter 2 Verse 1 states:

  When I came to you , brothers, proclaiming the mystery of God, I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom.      
 
 In place of "mystery of God", would "testimony of God" be correct?

Although my Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition Bible has “testimony,” an accompanying footnote says: “Other ancient authorities read *mystery *(or secret).”

The International Bible Commentary-A Catholic and Ecumenical Commentary for the Twenty-First Century, edited by William R Farmer and published by The Liturgical Press in 1998, page 1606, says, in part:
For the third subdivision (2:1-5) variant readings of two verses must be mentioned: 2:1 “mystery” or “testimony” and 2:4 “with plausible words of wisdom” or, among other readings, “the persuasiveness of wisdom.” A choice is difficult but the alternated readings do not really affect the train of thought.
