It was 40 years…

Exodus 16:34-35 As the LORD commanded Moses, Aaron put the manna in front of the Testimony, that it might be kept. The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan. (NIV)

Hi Terry,
It appears the total time was 40 years - 2 years before they rebelled against God, and 38 years after as punishment.
Deut 2:14 “And the time from our leaving Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the brook Zered was 38 years, until the entire generation, that is, the men of war, had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.”

I did a google search on “Moses 38 years in desert”. You might want to try that for more info.

Have a great day,

Hi again,

thank you for the replies … when did they get to “Kadesh-barnea” how long after Egypt was that?

and was it 38 years from the time of Jesus to the desruction of the temple in 70 AD?

Lots of love,
Terry

Hi Terry,
Late responding because we were out of town all week.
Couldn’t find a Scripture passage that stated exactly when the Israelites arrived at Kadesh-barnea (Doesn’t mean there isn’t such a passage, just that I couldn’t find one.). You might want to read the first couple chapters of Deuteronomy.

Deut 2:7 …these 40 years the LORD your God has been with you;…
Deut 2:14 And the time from our leaving Kadesh…was 38 years.
A little math shows 2 years passed before they **“left” **Kadesh.

As to how long after Egypt before they “arrived” at Kadesh - I don’t know. Deut 1:46 says they “remained at Kadesh many days”. So it depends on how long “many days” is.

Regarding the time from Jesus death till 70 AD destruction:
No way to know for sure the exact number of years.
Jesus was about 30 when He began his public preaching (Luke 3:23). It’s estimated His public ministry lasted for about three years, which would have made Him approximately 33 at the time of His crucifixion. If year “0” is accurate for year of Jesus’ birth (and you probably know there is a lot of dispute about that!!), that would make it 37 years from time of Jesus’ death until the destruction of Jerusalem.
