Hey folks? is there a place I can see stats on the divorce rate that occurs when couples do not remain chaste before marriage. A friend of mine says apparently that the divorce rate in the bible belt for people who abstain is higher. Is there like tangible proof of this.

I don’t have any stats, but I’ve heard that divorce rates are higher for people who are poorer and for people who are less educated, highly overlapping categories of course. Not to stereotype but I believe people in the South are on average both of these, compared to the rest of the country.

Remember, correlation does not necessarily mean causation!

Strictly speaking, sex after marriage is impossible because marriage ends only in death. 😛

I’ve heard many times that the divorce rate is higher for those who cohabitate before marriage. I have always been skeptical, however, of the interpretation which is sometimes given to these statistics (that cohabitation increases one’s likelihood of divorce). It seems to me that, if this is indeed the case, it might also be explained as follows: those who are less likely to cohabitate will tend to be those of more conservative morals, who will more likely be opposed to divorce. For instance, a traditional Catholic is less likely to cohabitate before marriage due to his/her moral opposition to it. She is ALSO more likely not to divorce, because of her beliefs. But her likelihood of divorcing is not directly connected to her not cohabitating.
