I didn’t know where to post this question . . I have inherited an abundance of holy medals and broken rosaries that I don’t know what to do with. I will dole out the medals at special events my GF and I hold for the young girls/ladies of our parish and I keep the stash of beads to repair broken rosaries for anyone who asks. I’ve tried to use up matching beads to make new rosaries from scratch, but I still have all these mismatches.

I have a co-worker who ‘rescues’ vintage rosaries from Etsy shops and expressed she fears that people who find them and don’t know what they are will take them apart and use the findings to make jewelry. Well, I confess, that’s kind of what I’m considering. My GF and I are hosting a craft night for the girls of the parish and I thought we could use holy medals and beads to make ‘friendship’ style bracelets. Instead of wearing the medal around the neck, you wear it on your wrist, like a charm.

I’m just feeling a little convicted now that this may not be entirely appropriate. Can anyone set me straight? TIA.

I use mismatches for rosary bracelets.

I’ve also made bracelets from complementary beads and interspersed them with smaller ones from broken sets.

I’ve used Pater beads as separators…large blue beads from a broken set and smaller ones I bought new.

Remember, the full Dominican Rosary consists of fifteen decades, not including the Pater beads and the tail. The five decade ones we see are actually chalets, that we go around on three or four times.

So, a rosary bracelet of seven, nine, ten, thirteen, or fifteen is just an even smaller chaplet,
as the full rosary can be broken into smaller part.

I make rosaries, and use these “found and mismatched” items for repair all the time. If you don’t want tem, you can ship them to me, I’ll be happy to take them.
Peace,
Clare

You can also give them to The Legion of Mary in your Church for them to make Rosaries.
