Proper way of tying the cincture?

What is the proper (traditional) way of tying the cincture? Is there a difference between the way of tying for priests and servers? I use to do it like this if the cincture is short enough to be able to hang on one side only. However, it must be done in some other way if it’s too long. And, as far as I have understood the knot depicted here is a simplified one, but I have forgotten how to do the “proper” one and that’s why I’m asking.
 
That handout is how I was taught to tie it back in the 1970’s, and how my dad (a RC Deacon) ties his when he wears one. It happens also to be how every RC priest I’ve seen vest ties theirs.

Note, however, that the majority of priests I know wear the knot centered, and everyone else off to the side. This is because, for priests, the hanging ends then get used to hold the stole in place by tucking them through the belt-portion over the stole. Bishops M. Hurley, Kinney, and Kineki, and Archbishop F. Hurley also did this.

Note that if the cincture is significantly too long, it can be wrapped around the body a second time before passing through the knot. I’ve had this happen a couple of times. (When asked to lead a Liturgy of the Word service at a children’s retreat, for one. Dad’s Alb and Cincture… dad’s waist was half again mine… and his cincture hangs to his ankle.)

That knot, a girth-hitch is the correct way to tie a cincture. Some priests tie their cinctures in a way to retain their stoles which is called a Roman knot.

That’s the way I learned it at college seminary, as I wasn’t an altar server when younger. Another option which some priests use, myself included, place the knot in line with the belly button and separate the ends, running them in front the stole to secure the stole in place.
