Prophets in the Mormon faith vs the bible

I was thinking about this today. It seems like in the bible prophets were not chosen by the people but by God. In fact I don’t really think they knew it was coming.

But in the LDS faith it almost seems like the next person in line will get it. That doesn’t make sense to me because I thought being a prophet was a gift

the LDS prophets don’t seem to be the same as the old testament prophets

Maybe God put the “next in line” there on purpose to fulfill His will?🙂

Prophecy is a gift of the Holy spirit. If men are appointed to a position in which prophecy is part of the job description, are they appointed to the position of LDS apostle because they have this gift already or are they suddenly able to do so once they are appointed? Also, is LDS prophecy of the same nature as of prophets found in the bible?
 
I don’t think the prophacy is the same at all. to be honest.

The LDS church to me is very man made. Fine if you believe it but I just don’t see the world the way the LDS church does
