The following was a proposed project for the 50th anniversary of Vatican II.

Studying the history of this Church Council is important to all Catholics.

Anyone is welcome to take it and develop it. I have most if not all the Power Point shells started (first slide) and will send a CD to anyone interested so you won’t have to re-invent the wheel.

I think it is fantastic, actually read V2 docs, now there is a concept

My proposal for honoring the anniversary is to impose a moratorium on either criticising any aberrations in liturgy or Catholic practice because V2 caused it, or lauding any such aberration because it is “the spirit of V2” until it can be proven that the speaker has indeed read the 2 volume book of V2 docs (or taken Bro’s excellent course).

Who are you opening this program to? Laity? Ministers of the church? People in a lay formation, or seminary/deacon class???

I originally proposed the idea for use in parishes, maybe several pariages together, back in 2006. I got little interest from local parishes. I again proposed it in 2007 and again got little interest, and so put it on the shelf. I ran across it while looking for something on my HD this morning and thought about putting it out there one more time in cyber-space and see if anyone might be interested in working on completeing some of it. I thought if 10 or 15 peolpe would be interested in taking a few sessions and working on them then exchanging them with everyone else, that would be an interesting project.

Hi Bro Rich,
I am extremely interested in this. Sounds great. Good luck!
Have you developed it?

May I ask you, without sounding impertinent, how much formal study have you done on Vatican II? I ask simply because I am wanting to get a feel of what you are doing, the level of it, where you are taking it, etc etc.

I am currently finishing an M Litt level dissertation on Vatican II and am about to begin doctoral research. I studied at a Jesuit university in the US and am now at a British university.

Is SFO secular Franciscan?

Yes, I’m a secular. I do a summer self-study program each year on a different topic. In 1997, I selected Vatican II as my topic, and read the Bios on John the XXIII and Paul VI.

Pope John XXIII , Shepherd of The Modern World- Hebblethwaite
Apostle For Our Time, Paul VI - Clancy
Journal of a Soul - Pope John XXIII

I read these books on the Council.

History of Vatican II - Peeters
Johannine Council - Haring
Letters Form Vatican City - Rynne
Observer in Rome - Brown

Then I read 12 of the Council documents and looked over the other 4. Along with the summary of the documents and referenced the “Catechism” which is a doctrinal index of sorts.

Vatican Council II, Documents - Flannery
Dynamic Voice of Vatican II - Ruffolo
Catechism of modern Man

I then read this book about politics of Vatican II -

The Rhine Flows Into The Tiber - Wilgen

Then this one by John Paul II on the Council.

***Sources of Renewal, The Implementation of Vatican II *- Wojtyla

Vatican II , The Catholic Challenge by Alan Schreck was read after this study was over as was Vatican II - The Crisis and the Promise. Which gave me the idea of the project.

This is a great idea!
Can I get a copy of your power points?
This would make a wonderful adult study session/course at the parish! 👍

Hey, there, Brother Rich…

I’m still VERY interested in your VII study!

Any chance I can get a copy of the CD you mentioned? 👍

The outline for anyone else who might be interested is in the first post of this thread. The project was never finished because of lack of interest.
