Just thought I would post this for those of you who may live in California, or for any of you that may be able to do something or find this information useful:

Planned Parenthood says
they’ll keep everything secret from girls’ parents.

You see, the Web site includes eye-opening transcripts and audio taped phone conversations of a "13-year-old girl" calling more than 90 Planned Parenthood abortion centers and other abortionists in California. You’ll hear the girl asking for an abortion, and how to keep it a secret from her parents.

Planned Parenthood operators tell the young girl, “NO PROBLEM”
. they’ll keep her abortion and “birth control” TOTALLY SECRET from her parents, who don’t need to know! Never mind that the abortion will kill her baby and maybe her, too!

What’s more, many Planned Parenthood operators tell her it’s just fine for her 22-year-old boyfriend to bring her in for the secret abortion. Never mind that it’s a crime (statutory rape) for him to be having relations with an underage girl!

These audiotapes and transcripts expose Planned Parenthood (the biggest opponents of Proposition 73) like nothing you’ve ever heard before.

Hilarious Parody

I came across this on a blog this morning. It was said to be written to “show what would happen if society adopted the thinking of those that oppose Prop 73.”

Excerpt:
“Right now, California Public Schools require that parents see their student’s report cards. In addition, teachers may call parents at home to talk about the students. This terrorizes students. Some parents may severely punish children who receive bad grades. In addition, no child should have to endure the embarrassment of having their teacher call their parent at home.So therefore, I am proposing the Keep Kids Smart Act. This act will require that teachers get permission from students before sending home a report card or calling a parent.”

I voted today and mailed my ballot. I, of course!, voted yes on 73.
Our Bishop has said that we have a moral obligation to vote yes on this issue. No problem!
The schools can’t give your child an asprin without your consent but an abortion is okay??! Why in the world anyone would vote against this is beyond me. But, unfortunately, some will.
I’ll be interested to see if it passes.

I do intend to vote no on this. I think there are some cases where parental notification will do more harm then good. I usually vote against issues that pit one group’s morals on another group who doesn’t share them.

(I’m sure I’m going to take heat for that. But I couldn’t word it to say what I wanted it to)

I’m, unfortunately, not old enough to vote yet. If able to, I would vote yes on this proposition. 👍

This was in my parish bulletin last Sunday. 👍

VOTE YES FOR COMMON SENSE
VOTE YES ON PROPOSITION 73

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that the “family is the ‘privileged community’ wherein children are meant to grow in wisdom, stature and grace. It also counsels us that public authorities should not usurp the family’s prerogatives or interfere in its life.”

Proposition 73 will:
  • Mandate that except for medical emergency, no abortion could be performed on a minor unless the physician notifies the minor’s parent or legal guardian at least 48 hours before the procedure.
  • Allow a minor access to juvenile court if she is being coerced to have an abortion.
  • Require the filling of reports with the Department of Health Services by the physicians who perform minor abortions.
The California Conference of Catholic Bishops supports Proposition 73, the Parents Right to Know Initiative, which will be on the November 2005 election ballot.

I am voting no on this too. It affects the poor only, and does more harm than good. But I suspect it will pass here in California, because the voter turn out will be low. But that will be the only reason why it passes.

It may do harm in some cases but it will do good in a lot of other cases. All up it is sure to do more good than harm, so why would you vote ‘no’?
I don’t live in Cali. However, tomorrow I’ll dedicate a rosary to pray that it passes.

In the cases where parental notification might do more harm than good, there is an exclusion where the minor can petition the court to waive the notification requirement.

I also don’t think this is pitting one group’s morals against another’s. It is simply parents wanting to know what is going on with their child. I’m guessing you are not a parent.
My child cannot go on a field trip with her school unless I sign a permission slip. My signature has to be on file that yes, she may have aspirin or tylenol at school. When my daughter broke her shoulder at the park this summer, I had to authorize the ambulance ride and the surgery in the ER. But as the law now stands, she can have an abortion and I don’t even know about it?

The proposition isn’t even written as a pro-life/pro-choice issue. It is simply saying you can not perform a medical procedure on a minor child without notifying the parents first. How is THAT pitting morals on a group?

How does this only affect the poor? Only poor teenagers have sex? Only poor teenagers seek abortions? Only poor mothers would like to know if their daughter is undergoing a medical procecdure?

Laws like Prop. 73 have been in effect for years in more than 30 other states. Many times, after such laws pass, a substantial reduction occurs in the unwanted pregnancy and abortion rates among minors.

Bumping this up to let everyone know that initiative 73 failed, along with every other initiative.

What a sad day for CA.

**Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) – **Teenagers and their parents in California lost a major battle on Tuesday night with the defeat of Proposition 73. Voters in the Golden State rejected the state constitutional amendment to require parental notification for an abortion.

To some, the vote wasn’t surprising given California’s pro-abortion bent…

Hmm. I guess I just don’t understand why California parents decided that they don’t need to know about their daughters’ abortions.

None of their business, right? Let’s get rid of all other school requirements for parental permission slips.

Only for the poor students. Bah… what a crock. I can’t believe 73 didn’t pass.

Steve Smith, campaign manager for the Planned Parenthood-backed Campaign for Teen Safety, applauded the measure’s defeat and claimed the abortion business is committed to making sure parents know about a teen’s abortion.
Scuse me while I be uncharitable for second…

WHAT A LOAD OF BULL!

Not only did Prop 73 fail in California but San Francisco passed a law that would forbid military recruiting on the campuses of San Francisco. The poor dear Seniors in High School (17 & 18 years old) should not be given the “choice” to listen to those scary military recruiters but the children in junior high or middle school(11, 12, and 13 years old) are considered mature enough to not only fornicate but to kill the results of their “choice” without their parents knowing. I don’t live that far from San Francisco but I haven’t visited that city of corruption for years. I suggest you do likewise.
