Research why the above is true and why the NO resembles to some degree the Anglican service: they have common ROOTS.
My mistake for sidetracking the thread. Though it would make a very interesting discussion for another one-since the issue pops up quite often it seems.

I appreciate the points you made UKcatholicguy, but it is not unknown for a priest to face the congregation (the yearly Liturgy of St. James where it is celebrated in certain places- one can see pictures of this practise), the use of the vernacular is also common, the low tone depends on the interpretation of the rubric (I think the word used is “mysticos”?) Moreover I have yet to see something that mandates an ad orientum (versus apsidem) celebration for the TLM.Even vernacular hmyns in place of the propers in not unknown- it was permitted in Bavaria in 1590’s.

Moreover the Lutheran comparison is a bit flawed, since it is not evident by texts at the time, and the mainline Protestant churches themselves have undergone radical changes in theology and praxis.
