Protestant converts to Catholicism leading lay evangelical movements?

Has anyone noticed how many of the new lay movements are led by former Protestants, many pastors, who have converted?

The Coming Home Network, St. Martin De Porres community, St. Paul Center, Catholic Resource Center, many on the faculty of Franciscan U. which I’m told now has more theology majors than Notre Dame. Most of the speakers on the circuit these days are former Protestants it seems.

Don’t know what that says but it is interesting.
 
Probably because the RCIA education is better than the CCD education. Plus, converts usually educate themselves before converting. As converts, they’re also more passionate than us cradle Catholics who tend to sometimes take our faith for granted. I’m a cradle Catholic and I don’t remember much from CCD. I have basically catechized myself in the last few years. That’s just a thought.
 
I call myself a “revert” to Catholicism. I too have strayed in the passion of believing I could learn more in the Protestant religions. I was right. I learned I missed the Catholic Church more then ever. We have such a rich history, but the sacraments given by Christ to his Bride are so evident that I can’t be anywhere else, but HIS CHURCH! Now, don’t get me wrong, I love my Protestant friends very much. Many of them live a Christian life more profound then my Catholic brethren. The challenges my Protestant friends have placed before me, Protestant converts to Catholicism, and the intercessory prayer of my parents has provoked the Holy Spirit to guide me back home! Thank-you ALL!
The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) has an outstanding program, “The Journey Home,” which gives wonderful witness to the Bridegroom (Christ) and his bride (Catholic Church).
 
I think it is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!! It is exactly what the Church needs and it gives us so much hope for Christian Unity! It is sad that there is a shortage of priests, but some good will come out of it with lay people rising to the occasion to bolster the Faith. This group of people take Apostolic Tradition as seriously as Scripture, so they are generally very protective of keeping Apostolic Tradition intact… not trying to change it to fit the world we live in. The word of God cant’ change, whether written in Scripture or passed on in Apostolic Traditioin… (by word or by letter) Thank you God!
 
Yes, that program is from a great organization, The Coming Home Network. It is nice there are quite a number of good, orthodox Catholic groups focused on evangelization now. The hard thing is deciding which to support monetarily as they all do good work.
 
It is all part of our master plan to take over the Church. Shhhh…

Yeah, right. When you converts were Protestants you couldn’t agree among yourselves, and now you are going to agree on taking over the Catholic Church? Fat chance!

Kidding aside, converts to Catholicism are awesome. Most converts have a lot to teach cradle Catholics about our faith. I have learned so much from the very devout converts to Catholicism who I have met and who post on these forums.
 
As a very enthusiastic convert, I hope to provide inspiration to bring some of my lost brothers and sisters home. I wish I would have known about Catholicism years ago. As I told someone in my parish, I kept batting around looking for a Protestant church that had a consistent life ethic AND believed that you had to live your faith. I couldn’t find one but until I met another convert (from UCC a P.K. no less) I didn’t realize what the Catholic church had to offer. Unfortunately there are a lot of misconceptions floating around and I never knew any different. Oddly too, while I actually knew some Catholics quite well, none of them even SUGGESTED I look into Catholicism. I don’t know if they didn’t want to seem pushy or if they didn’t think it was appropriate. Our priest said this is a great time to ‘evangelize’ because people ARE talking about Catholicism due to the death of John Paul II and the election of Benedict XVI. He said at last, some publicity about the Church that DOESN"T mention pedophile priests! YAY!

I really do want to find a way to shout from the mountaintops THIS IS IT!!! You lost sheep please find your way Home. Any suggestions how I can accomplish this would be appreciated.

Just tell them to stay away from CCD. In laymens terms, it sucked. We didn’t even have a Catechism, just some stupid books for kids like we were too young at 14 to understand most of the things?

I suspect your right, although I know some seriously devout and ‘evangelical’ cradle Catholics 👍 (JGC, convert :cool:)
 
i think that is normal, converts are more enthusiastic than normal catholics. I think that his great grace for the conversion must be used for get better the church and reduce all the bad things that happen and don´t have to happen.
 
I was baptized, made my first communion, and my confirmation all before I was 13 years old, so as a ‘cradle Catholic’ I also take Roman Catholicism for granted.

I have also noticed a lot of the Protestant converts to Catholicism on this thread are highly tolerant of the concept of married Priests, have a strong ‘book’ knowledge of the Bible, and have more ‘missionary’ zeal than us cradle Catholics, who essentially leave it up to the Priests and Nuns as we were taught.

I am becoming ‘re-exposed’ to Roman Catholicism as an adult. Some of it I really like, some of it causes hesitation. But once a Roman Catholic, always a Roman Catholic. My only alternative to Roman Catholicism would be atheism, which is not a consideration. So lapse Catholic it is.

As disillusioned and disgruntled with Roman Catholicism as I sometimes get, Protestantism is not an option! :nope:
 
Reading this thread reminds me of the parable of the pearl in the Gospel. One searches for it and when they find it, there is great joy and you sell everything to purchase that pearl. I myself am a convert. This July will be the twentieth anniversary of my conversion. The Catholic Church is truly that pearl.
 
Well, hey what about those of us who went through RCIA and now are catechists?!?

You are right about some cradler’s who teach CCD. They sometimes don’t know the catechism very well. Most are good, doing the best they can with some pretty silly program materials. Most of what we have to choose from would not offend the average protestant.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean we should be offensive…

Like you said, those of us who chose the faith did some research. I wish more people kept forming themselves as adults. That is my biggest concern as Confirmation Team. Keep them growing, it is not a diploma. No one should stop their faith formation with an 8th grade perspective.

My suggestion is get invovled as a helper with the Coming Home Network. They will pair you with Protestants from a like back backround on the road to Rome. Sort of as a support and there to answer questions/concerns.
