Protestant ministers driving Mercedes-Benz

I recall my small home-town Catholic priest driving a shiny new Mercedes back in the 70s.

Got the cash and want the glitter? :yup:

Have you guys ever been to Rome? There is a district in Rome where they sell all kind of priestly clothing. They have everything from Wal-Mart cheap to designer expensive. The owner of Rome’s most famous religious clothing store says that most people who buy his fine clothing are wealthy. They buy it as gifts for their friend and family members.

I think most Protestant pastors are honest and God loving and fearing people. However, there are some who are out solely for money. Can you name me one poor televangelist? But I can name you a ton of televangelist ministers with multi-million dollar homes. And there are pimped out ministers from the hood too (don’t get me started on these people): Jackson, Sharpton, Kennedy, etc.

Don’t paint with too broad a brush. I posted this on another forum but I am the son of a pastor and I can tell you that the pastors who drive Mercedes are in the minority. My family has never bought a new car, we lived in a modest home and my brother and I never had the “latest and greatest” (you should have seen my first car). My mother is a school teacher and she makes more than my Dad. My Dad has 2 bachelors and a masters too.

In all honesty we protestants hate this health and wealth **** just as much or more than you because it reflects bad on us. My blood boils when I see these jerks on TV spreading lies about how supposedly good Christians should be rich. If anything the opposite is true. The vast majority of pastors are like my father, so please bear that in mind. The health and wealth congregations usually burn themselves out anyways so I wouldn’t worry about that. Eventually someone is going to get sick and come to the realization that God is still there when you are poor and sick, in fact that is when God works best.
Agreed. As a former Baptist, the Baptist church I attended the majority of my life was pretty modest. The Pastor made very little. And one of the local heroes of my life anyways, the youth pastor and his wife, have to work 2 jobs just to make ends meet. As far as my new church, I’m not sure about the Priest, but I’m quite sure he’s not driving a Lexus. 😃

How about Benny Hinn (think that’s his name). He has those visions that are from God, except of course when it doesn’t come true (so I guess they’re not from GOd). So far Jesus was supposed to appear at one of his crusades in Africa, and Castro was supposed to die. Oh well. He may last till the 2nd coming!

Benny is making 7 figures, preaching that if you have some disease or handicap and you have enough faith you can be healed by him magically if you let him smack you in the forehead…and if you pay a lot of money.

Explains his wardrobe at least. One of the cable movie channels did a great documentry about him about people who weren’t healed by relieved of their cash of course

We can assume the priest can live on less than your former Baptist pastor or youth minister because the priest is not supporting a wife and kids! (Another benefit of priestly celibacy!)
