Our church generally uses a Protestant Vacation Bible School Curriculum. This year, however, it seems to have an agenda. Many ot the songs talk about the church being built on Jesus the Rock and the church being built by grace through faith alone. I am supposed to be teaching these songs to the children, but I cannot teach what I consider to be heresy. What should I do?

A Protestant VBS curriculum that denies the Catholic faith is a recipe for spiritual disaster. I suggest you take your concerns to the person in charge of the program and offer your help to correct the problem.

You’ll find support for your concerns in section 2226 of the Catechism where it says that “The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of parents and children.” This also means the parish has an obligation to help Catholic parents “care for the Christian education of their children according to the teaching handed on by the Church” (Canon 226). Thus, Protestant theology has no place in a Catholic church.

For next summer, consider the *Win the World for Jesus * Catholic VBS program. It’s available at the following site: catholickidsnet.org/whatsnew.html
