Protestant churches will often say they are “Bible Believers” and many will say unlike Catholics. They complain we worship false gods i.e. statues, or Mary. They will say they seek forgiveness from God not man.

Since they are “Bible Believers” why do they follow papal directives of worshiping on Sunday when the Bible says we are to worship on the Sabath (Saturday)!!!

Yes, the Pope Sylvester long ago directed the celebration of the Lord’s day to be Sunday because Jesus rose on Sunday. The majority of the Christian world followed suit. The Bible says “the seventh day he rested” and that we should “keep holy the sabbath day.” Sunday has always been considered the first day of the week!

Some will point to passages like Acts 20:7 and 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 as a sign Christians were gathering on the first day of the week even in the first century, though someone not sold on the idea of gathering on Sunday could easily poke holes in that.

Others will use Sunday because it is the day Jesus rose from the dead, and we’re more focused on that rather than strict adherence to the Sabbath. This both has some support in Jesus’ words (e.g. Mark 2:27-28), and I’m pretty sure it is part of the reason even we Catholics gather on the Sunday.

With that said, I’d imagine the vast majority of people don’t think about it. They just go when the church has its service.

I guess Seventh-Day Adventists could make the argument that they don’t.
