I just created this poll, and thought it only fair to create a similar one for our Protestant friends.

When you (Protestants) enter the mission field, would you rather the field be untainted by Catholicism, so that you don’t have to reeducate them on Christianity? Would you prefer they be clean slates for you to write the precepts of Christianity on?

And, as I said on the other thread:
I’m not looking for comments on how realistic or unrealistic this is (e.g., “you can’t look at this in a vacuum. So many people have some idea of Christianity,” etc.). That’s not my point.

I’m also not looking for comments by Catholics. You’ve your own poll to respond to. 🙂

God bless.

Well, if I’d seen this one 1st, I wouldn’t have:o voted & answered in the other poll!!
But I did, so please :yup: refer over there, if you are interested in my answer.

I say Definantly!

Catholics are carrying just about the same message as we are. If they would actually go out on the missions field, glory be to God!

I would rather see a Catholic doing God’s work than nobody doing his work.

I’ll be the first to admit, i disagree with the Catholic church on many areas. But, if you can truly get to the heart of the matter, we’re aiming for the same thing, with different methods.

Actually, Catholics invented the Mission field. This is how South and Central American natives stopped human sacrifice, how Europe was civilized after the Roman pagan influences … We have people who dedicate their entire lives to giving glory and honor to Christ, they are known as Priests and Nuns. The laity also have a long history of serving, even if not always in as visible a manner.

Please don’t buy into the idea that because there are many Catholics who have become pew warmers, or even more luke warm, that this is representative of the Devout Catholic and their views towards Evangelization and Missionary work in general.

Yeaaah,

But there are just so many bench warmers. For a while I was beginning to think that somewhere in the Catechism maybe it said something of the lines of “don’t evangelise.” But I looked and there’s nothing of the sort. In fact doesnt it promote evangelizing somewhere?

Not really relevant to the question, but it was what sprang to mind:

Many churches have a sign inside them, directly above their exit door, which reads, “You are now entering the mission field.” Every time I see it, I want to find another one to nail up on the outside.

There is that irrisistable innocence we love about you :yup: .
Yes it does discuss evangelization, and JPll also issued an encyclical on evangelization. You might find it funny that he said something like," The greatest obstacle to Catholic evangelization is not the Catholic faith, it is Catholics."! That’s a paraphrase, BTW.
You really should get a copy and read it for yourself - I think you would be completely blown away…
I will warn you in advance though - there are no pictures of kittens in it.

I believe Catholics do their best mission work (aside from those areas unfamiliar with the Gospel) when the live up to the doctrines of the Church. When people around them see good, hard-working, pious, honest, charitable Catholics, that is the best mission work.
