Protestants: How do you choose a place of worship when moving or on vacation?

I have visited several different churches in my lifetime and have found that every one I’ve been to, other than the RCC’s, all have different belief systems, interpretations of Scripture etc. Some of the differences are very slight, but are differences just the same. I was wondering how you go about choosing a place of worship when on vacation or when you move? Thanks in advance for any replies and God Bless!!
 
But, if they were truly led by the Holy Spirit, why would He allow so many contradictions?

When I was looking for a new church I called and spoke with the minister and asked many questions.
They had to believe in the Trinity
They had to be a bible based church–meaning the bible is the sole authority on faith and morals

They had to believe Jesus Christ was born a virgin birth suffered and died on the cross to forgive us all our sins.
These are the major theological issues. After that, I would visit and check out the service and the people.I am a very social person and need to be around genuine believers(not the pew warmers). I would also want to see what kind of programs they offered.

For example, I decided on the church Im at now because of their youth ministry. My daughter was just about to enter youth group age and that was vital to me. My church has a HUGE range of groups for kids–all ages.

Honestly, all you have to do is read their statement of faith and constitution. They should all have one and if they dont I wouldnt bother to go there.

That was a short version but I hope it helps.

P.S. Vacation it wouldnt matter to me. Sometimes it is good to expand your horizons and visit other churches.👍
 
I am a Presbyterian and when I look for a church I just look for another Presbyterian. If I am at home in Canada and there is no Presbyterian Church, I would look for United Church of Canada as it is very similar being a merger of Methodists, Congregationalists and most Presbyterians in 1925.
Otherwise I would feel comfortable in most trinitarian churches. When we visit my in-laws, I attend their Catholic Church.
 
When I was a Baptist, we never attended church on vacation, unless we were with family that attended. Then we went to their church. Of all the non-Catholic family that visits us, they do not attend anywhere when out of town.
 
I see if there are any Friends Meetings…or I enter into Meeting alone on First Day.

I look for a Lutheran Church. If one is not around, I will attend a Catholic or Anglican/ Episcopal Church.
 
We look for a GARBC Baptist Church because GARBC Church all teach and preach the same thing “the fullness of the truth”

GARBC? GAR Baptist Church?

Out of curiosity, are all their pastors educated under a similar training program?

Are you sure that they all teach the same (or at least are supposed to teach the same)… I am thinking of divorce/remarriage, contraception, baptism by water and the Spirit etc. These things are part of the fullness of the faith too.

First of all, I don’t necessarily find differences threatening. Indeed, I might choose to go to a different sort of church while traveling (an Orthodox church, for instance) precisely in order to experience a different tradition of Christianity without being “disloyal” to my hoe parish (since I can’t go there anyway). However, I most often go to an Episcopal church when traveling.

As for moving, in the two moves since grad school (the first one coinciding with my marriage) I have wound up continuing to attend an Episcopal church, though I’ve also been attending Methodist churches (my wife is Methodist). When I moved to NJ I seriously considered leaving the Episcopal Church, but in the end did not do so. The Episcopal Church here in Indiana is much more orthodox.

Being a member of the LCMS I’ve been able to find a church when out of town so that I could take communion, If unable to find an LCMS church I’m sure there would be a WELS or ELS church but I think they practice prayer fellowship so one would need to be respectful. But never attend a main line liberal denom, Methodist PCUSA (PCA is good if your a calvinist), ELCA.
 
Well, since i moved over to Sydney for studying. I supposed to look for charistmatic church here, but then the church is too far away from where i stay, so now i attend Hillsong in Sydney and sometime too attended Mass and Anglican church. Depending on my time schedule and the distant i need to travel. Although is not very good of moving around from church so i decided to stay with Hillsong for the time being 😃

Garbc pastor are educated in Garbc colleges such as Grand Rapids Baptist College or other colleges that agree with Garbc doctrine,
We do not believe with divorce and remarriage unless your spouce has passed away.
we believe in believers baptism and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at the moment that God saves you.
We do not believe in contraception. My pastor has six little baptist.

When I move, and my denomination is not in the area, I place an ad in the newspaper. I look for the church with the largest and most extensive lending library.

I visit websites before going on vacation looking for safe churches to visit.

That’s how it worked with my family as well.
 
I never go on vacation or travel anymore!!
But if I did…I suppose whatever is closest to the hotel or campground…
 
Before I converted, I just went to any church that shared the same or similar historical background. I was United Church of Canada, so if I was in the US, I’d go to the United Methodist Church, and in Britain, we attended the Church of Scotland.
 
The last vacation I went on, I went to visit my cousin in Florida. It was the summer after I converted. She was the one who voiced the most concern about me converting. When I asked her where a catholic church was, she gave me directions and told me she still wanted me to go to her church. So I did both. The love I have for our faith is so real…I simply can’t explain it.
