It’s not MY translation. However, I have to take responsibility for grabbing it from an online version of the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) which is the translation widely used in the ELCA.I agree with the scripture you picked , but am not thrilled with your translation.
Here’s the Revised Standard Version (RSV) reading –
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God;
3 all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
And here’s the New American Bible (NAB) reading –
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be
4 through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race;
5 the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
