I’m very proud of my boys this week. Saturday was their first Confession and my youngest told me he wants to become Catholic. I took up my role as their spiritual father and I’m beside myself with happiness and pride. 😀

It’s nice that one of your sons wants to become Catholic. But I’m confused as to how non-Catholics have their first confession.

Well, I was going to Confession and they wanted to do Confession too.

Did you talk to the priest before this happened? As Lutherans, they really should not be going to Confession.

That’s not the way it’s done. Since your sons are past the age of reason, they will prepare to enter the Church through RCIA. Thats where they will learn about the sacraments and prepare to receive them. This is one of those areas where they need to learn that they can’t do everything dad does yet.

On the other hand, I commend you for taking them to church with you. That kind of simple exposure goes a long way.

Upon reflection, I shouldn’t have let them go to Confession. I did talk to Father before hand and he asked me if I was going to raise them Catholic and I said yes; as best I can without causing a family rupture. When I talked to the RCIA Director, a Sister Of the Good Shepherd; she didn’t bat an eye when I told her that my youngest son ( He’s the one who wants to enter the Church ) already had his first Confession. After I told her he’s a baptized Lutheran.

Thank you for the commendation, Suscipe.
