I need this question answered.

Was there an ACTUAL HUMAN BEING named Yeshua who was crucified under Pontius Pilate? If so, is this the person that Christians worship?

I’ve seen all those films “Zeitgeist”, “The God Who Wasn’t There”, ect. and they make a pretty convincing argument, while Christians just say “its a matter of faith” and push it out of their minds. Jesus seems to of been invented for social control and the New Testament just a bunch of fairy tales to tell to little children. Then the kids grow up and learn the TRUTH.

IS JESUS A MYTH?

WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?

PLEASE!

Answered with what? What would it take? What proofs would compel you to believe?
IS JESUS A MYTH?
No.
WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?
Where isn’t the evidence of God and His Son?

The title of the thread, “Prove Jesus Existed” almost seems like a challenge. But the fact is that those who know He exists don’t require some physical proof. Therefore, we cannot share an absolute with you. You either accept Him or you don’t. Simple as that. To many, that seems ignorant, but I can live being thought of as ignorant. 👍

There are several ancient authors who mention Jesus…Josephus being one, as I recall.

The Bible itself proves of Jesus’ existance and if you travel to the holy land you will find evidence of Jesus and his apostles and related evidence on many other things. For some Jesus has appeared to them in many different ways.

So all those Christian martyrs – including the ones who pretended that they knew this Jesus guy personally – happily gave their lives to propogate a lie?

Peace,
Dante

There are a good four ancient writers who mention Jesus, his movement and his crucifixion. Josephus, the great Jewish writer is one. Another is Tacitius the Roman historian, I believe Seutonius also mentions him, and unfortunately I cannot recall the fourth. I believe that historians in general seem reasonably satisfied that he in fact existed. Also the attestation of so many followers both in scripture and other non-canonical writings give good reason to believe that the man Jesus was real, and that he in fact was crucifed in Jerusalem under the control of Pontius Pilate.

Thank you for providing a logical response that doesn’t insult or make fun of the OP. 🙂

And while Zeitgeist makes the claim that these writings have been debunked, it does so without providing any evidence as to why their claim is correct. They simply proclaim that these historians never wrote about Christ…isn’t this the sort of behaviour they are trying to combat? I could go on about it, but let me just say that Zeitgeist requires an awful of of faith on the part of the viewer to believe in its message 😉

One of the better books I have found on this subject is Jesus and the Eyewitnesses** by Bauckmann. Caution: Pretty academic. A bit easier to get through is *Jesus Under Fire *by Wilkins and Moreland, also a good book.

I’m afraid I’m unfamiliar with the movie. Is it fiction or does it proport to be a documentary of sorts? if the former, then I can only say that it is difficult to place any credence in for the simple reason that facts are shaded to achieve the proper blending necessary to the plot. I have heard nothing about the original sources being debunked. Of course it is true that history was not exactly then what it is today in terms of reliability. However I would find it awfully coincidental that so many ancient sources simply made up the same basic story.
