Psalms in the original language?

Psalms in the original language?

I’d really like to see, and hear if possible, the psalms in the orginal language they were written in, which I imagine is hebrew but am not certain that is correct, because I’d like to get a sense of the “poetry”, lyricism, rhyme, etc, of them.

Any pointers would be very gratefully appreciated! 🙂

there is an ancient music group out of I think San Antonio that has at least a couple of albums of early prayers, including some psalms, and the Our Father and other Jewish and early Christian prayers of praise, blessing etc. in the original languages and with period instruments. One of the CDs is Savae Ancient Echoes, but there is more than one. there are also a number of CDs with Jewish prayers, blessings, Passover order, including psalms available. I like to use these in appropriate contexts such as sacramental prep meetings or confirmation classes to introduce prayer services etc.

for instance at one meeting we began with an evening prayer including the psalm which begins “I rejoiced when they said to me let go up into the house of the Lord”, we sang the contemporary Christian version that includes these words, and later the ancient version of the same words. this introduced a session on the gathering, entrance and penitential rites of the Mass.
 
Why don’t you visit a synagogue. I was at a morning prayer service at one and they chant psalms in Hebrew.

There is a CD featuring some Psalms and passages from Old Testament books, by a French Jewish composer named Suzanne Haik-Ventura, a Harmonia Mundi disc. I think you will like it.
