I’ve read some complaints about the revised Psalter of Pius XII, but can’t find any references to what they pertain to. Why was the psalter revised? How were the changes different than the previous psalter? What is used today? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think—Please dont hold me to this, and do correct me if I am wrong. I am going from memory here, and it has been about ten years. I think Pius XII rstored the psalter to its original latin, and there was a problem with chanting it in that form. John XXIII, I beleived restored the Psalter to it’s previous form. I think that is it, but dont hold me to it.

I confess, though I have a Vulgate with parallel Gallican (translated from the LXX) and Pian Psalms, I have not much turned to that book. :o

According to Wikipedia (Latin Psalters), the Pian Psalter was translated from the Hebrew using a Classical Latin style, rather then the Vulgar Latin found in the rest of the Vulgate (hence the name).

The current Psalter, from the Nova Vulgata, uses a new translation from the Hebrew, but retaining much of the poetry of the Gallican Psalter.
