What is the churches stance on psychics? Is it wrong to watch shows like Crossing over, according to the Catholic church?

Thanks for the help!

I think so…psychics are scary…i had this guy come up to me and start “readign my future” out of no where. He said lots of stuff that were bang on before i got the chance to get away. He was really drunk and holding onto my hands and wouoldn’t let me go…luckily my boss came in and saw it and grabbed the guy. It was freaky stuff…i think they’re evil!

Psychics are a bunch of frauds. I would stay away from programs like Crossing Over and such trash. Why even risk the chance that you may start to believe in that junk? Protect your soul from anyone who claims to have supernatural knowledge outside of God’s providence.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church (God bless that book!):
2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
Psychics fall into the category of “phenomena of clairvoyance and recourse to mediums”.

Horoscopes play on psychological technique…it’s really quite interesting, i took a class on it last year in college!! I don’t find many things to be evil, but psychics give me a bad vibe…they’re creepy toooooooo creepy!!

So if i am becoming catholic, no more sunday paper horoscopes?

I know a lot of Catholics who have given up reading their horoscopes. I don’t know if the Catechism section is necessarily a complete injunction against them. I mean, if you don’t believe them (and obviously, considering how they are generated, you shouldn’t), there may be little harm. But then again I’m not an expert, either.

Even if it is required to give them up, i wouldn’t miss them a bit…kind of a waste of 30 seconds!!!

Psychics are tapping in to satan, basically. Yes, they are contacting spirits, but they’re contacting the wrong spirits. The Bible speaks against putting faith in them.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 “Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, nor one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord,…”

There ya go!

So called “psychics” are fakes. Crossing over, do you really think, if John Edwards was REALLY communicating with all these dead people he would ask LESS questions? He asks a whole bunch of questions.
It’s called a “cold” reading AND he was busted on Dateline.
