I was speaking in general that in NY accommodation for sin is a normal way of living while Christianity is merely tolerated as long as its not too conspicuous and confined to the privacy of one’s homes and churches.

I thought with all the comments from so many of you in the positive that the matter could be put to rest for me. BUT, as to cast a different light on the whole matter, I received THIS response from a Priest of EWTN when I asked him the same question as I posted here on the forum…This was his reply:

It could be a source of scandal for others and a source of temptation for
the ones involved, and placing themselves in such an occasion of sin is a serious evil.

I think this priest is right, and he has the authority to make the judgement call.

In this society in the West, hand-holding is 99% reserved for those ‘romantically involved’. Some asian girls may hold the friends of their hands, but it is usually recognisable as a cultural difference.

I have never seen two normal people holding hands out of friendship and I wouldn’t want any children to see it either, since it is a source of scandal.

Of course, there are exceptions, such as holding a friends hand during a time of sadness, or an elderly person holding your hand for guidance and support, but apart from that, its for lovers.

At least, that is what I have observed.

I agree with what Fr has to say…It depends on the age of the women if they are old ladies, I doubt their is much danger

I see a lot of elderly women holding hands
